Enjoyed omakase for one on a Wednesday evening at 6pm. I opted for Omakase C, which is the 17 course meal for 2200 pesos / $122 USD. Additionally, I ordered a bottle of sake for 439 pesos / $24 USD and fresh wasabi for 250 pesos / $14 USD. My total bill including 15% tip was 3322 pesos / $185 USD.
An apprentice prepared my meal, which is fine but would definitely have preferred the more experienced and confident main chef. There was no engagement from the chefs, other than when I asked for ginger. Possibly due to a language barrier. The hostess translated and introduced each dish. She was attentive and courteous, clearing plates and refilling my sake as my cup emptied.
The standout pieces included salmon sashimi and red snapper nigiri. It was entertaining to watch the apprentice sear foie gras for a couple of nigiri but they were more aesthetic than mouthwatering.
Overall, it was a good experience but nothing out of this world. The quality of fish is notable. Most importantly, the rice was on point. If you are a fan of sushi and want to splurge a bit, I recommend trying Sendo.
Pros: good price for an omakase experience beautiful view of the ocean nice interior aesthetic incorporating modern Japanese design
Cons: little interaction from chef if you don’t speak Spanish you have to pay for...
Read moreWe got Omakase and there was only one thing they served us that I didn't like. This is not, however, a very authentic Japanese experience. Think of it more as fusion, and they say so as well.
Decent sake and Japanese spirit collection. I loved my yuzu gin and tonic cocktail. The low point of our experience was actually the service; specifically one rude/inattentive person in particular, but there was also a general vibe of pretentiousness from the whole staff. I'm sure for many visitors to PV this place will feel awfully fancy, but well traveled foodies or urbanites from food meccas might find the display of self-importance from the staff ranges from comical to downright annoying. Maybe it's part of "the show", or maybe they were having an off night, but I certainly didn't appreciate it.
Great place for a date, especially a special occasion or an early date if you're trying to impress. They handled our group of 4 just fine but we also had a reservation. I would not bring a family or larger group here, and I especially wouldn't bring kids or non-food lovers (you know who you are chicken...
Read moreI would not recommend coming to this restaurant if you are not fluent in Spanish. I went with a local friend of mine and the guy at the door greeted us in Spanish. No problem. Then we went inside and between the volume of the music, his accent, and the rapidness of his speech I didn’t fully understand everything he was telling us (basically making sure we realized none of the sushi was tempura). When I didn’t understand, he proceeded to call me out for not speaking Spanish fluently and giving me an actual lecture about the importance of knowing Spanish if I’m in Mexico.
We then had a different guy as our waiter who was great, spoke Spanish to us and no problems with understanding each other and ordering. But then towards the end of the meal, he began to clear my friend’s plate before she was even done eating all of her sushi. Probably just a misunderstanding there, but a very very weird experience at this place. From what I could see, we were the only ones in the restaurant so I’m not sure what the rush was about.
Because of the first guy alone, I would...
