Absolutely terrible food quality. I seriously question the legitimacy of the 4.7-star rating—it feels completely fabricated, possibly the result of fake reviews.
The meat in the Banh Mi had a strange, off-putting taste, only partially masked by a generic sauce. To be honest, it shouldn’t even be called a Banh Mi. There were none of the traditional toppings—just low-quality meat in sauce stuffed into a crusty baguette.
As disappointing as the sandwich was, it was still a step above the Pho, which was truly horrific. Both the broth and the meat had that same peculiar flavor, but in the Pho, it wasn’t hidden behind any sauce. My sons and I, who are huge pho lovers, could hardly get through more than a few bites. I even told the staff that what they served wasn’t edible. I don’t know what formaldehyde tastes like, but I imagine it’s close to that unpleasant flavor in the meat.
The only redeeming part of the experience was the staff. They were extremely apologetic and even seemed embarrassed to be serving such low-quality food. They didn’t charge me for the three bowls I had ordered and mentioned that the owner recently switched meat suppliers. Unfortunately, the owner wasn’t present—but I sincerely hope they read this review and take it seriously.
This place is doing a real disservice to Vietnamese cuisine, which is known for being flavorful, fresh, and balanced. What’s being served here is the exact opposite. It’s not just...
Read moreAttentive service and decent Vietnamese food tucked away in the center of Mexico City. I was warmly greeted and handed a menu, though there was a bit of a wait before my order was taken. I chose the Pho bo and a Đá Chang Gừng (a lemon, mint, and ginger drink). Interestingly, the pho arrived before my drink, but I appreciated that the server took the time to explain the dish and the various sauces and additions.
Two sauces were provided: a sweeter black sauce and Sriracha. I preferred the sweeter one, as it added more depth to the pho. Initially, I found the pho to be lacking in flavor and had to add quite a bit of sauce to strike the right balance (which I sort of found, but it still wasn’t quite there). The noodles were thicker than expected, and some were more al dente than I would have liked.
When my drink finally arrived, it was fantastic and easily the highlight of my visit. The owner checked in on me multiple times and even offered more sauce and lemons, which added a personal touch. Prices were reasonable, and despite the pho being a bit underwhelming, I had an overall pleasant experience at this Vietnamese hole in the...
Read moreI recently dined at Ca Phe Vietnam, and overall, it was a delightful experience with a few minor suggestions for improvement.
Summer Spring Rolls The summer spring rolls were delicious and came with vegan options, which was a pleasant surprise. They were fresh, well-prepared, and perfectly complemented by the restaurant’s homemade peanut sauce, which was outstanding.
Juice Bar Drink I tried a drink from the juice bar, and it was great. The drink was refreshing and a perfect accompaniment to the meal.
Soup The soup was served in a generous portion, especially considering the reasonable price. The flavors were well-balanced, and I could taste the freshness of the ingredients. However, I would suggest serving the string beans separately, as their distinct flavor might not appeal to everyone.
Overall, Ca Phe Vietnam offers a great dining experience with its tasty dishes and attention to detail. A few small adjustments could make it even better. I look forward to returning and trying more items...
