Just meh - small portions on the entrees, terrible wait staff, some stupid rule about not being able to serve the burger to your table. Even when I asked if they could make an exception because we really wanted to try the burger I got a “sorry chef’s rules”. Sounds like the chef should take a course on customer service.
We started with the olives, steak tartar, and cesar salad. Olives were ok, but the portion could be bigger. The salad was great actually, well dressed, good portion. The tartar was good, salty with a great texture and served with tasty (untoasted)bread. I wish the meal had stopped here.
Next up was the steak frites and the pesca del día. The steak was luke warm at best, well cooked but lacked salt and had too much pepper. I was scared it would be fully cold by the time we could flag a waiter down (we were in the corner, visits were few and far between) so I literally stood up and asked the bartender to send us salt. I felt bad but what else was I supposed to do? The gravy or whatever was ok with the steak, but when sopped up with the fries it tasted pretty bland. The fries were fine. Too thick in my opinion but at least they were hot.
The pesca del día was dry and cold, the peas were undercooked (one stop softer than crunchy) and the sauce or cream at the bottom was extremely forgettable.
Someone from my Party was still hungry so they ordered the burrata. When it arrived it looked amazing. When I tasted it, however I was so disappointed. The compote or jam at the bottom totally ruined this dish. flavorless again but this time with a texture resembling baby food, I couldn’t even make out what it was… sweet potato? Not starchy enough. Apricot? Not sweet enough. A secret third thing? Totally unclear and totally ruined. Not to mention the berros on top were so vinigary I had to push the plate away a little so I didn’t have to smell it anymore . Frankly we didn’t eat more than half of the plate between the three of us.
The cheesecake also left a lot to be desired. Overcooked - More curdled than creamy. I liked the jam it came with but what’s up with the olive oil? Feels uninspired, feels like they wanted an excuse to sell it for 200 pesos so they put an ounce of olive oil on it. Tasted bad.
Another beautiful space ruined by simple errors.
Oh, and the booth seats were too short for the tables. I felt like a kid at the...

Read moreWe visited Cana last night unexpectedly. I was impressed with the hostess who was friendly and charming throughout. We were directed to the bar where our friends were awaiting. My husband got a mocktail. Pricey and minuscule and nothing to write home about: it was a lavender, grapefruit, white tea concoction. Our friends had wine by the glass and were happy with their choice. Oddly our order was served first although they had arrived earlier and had ordered before. I had the pandeyuca, a must try. Absolutely delicious. My husband had arúgula (rocket) salad and the arroz cremoso con hongos. They were spot on (very, very good) but portions are small (except for this salad). Our friends had the dumplings, the hamburger and the arroz cremoso. They didn't comment much but polished off everything on their plates. I heard the hamburger was very good, but not the best he had had. She loved the mustard sauce with the fries. Dessert time, the bartender was a total d**k. He absolutely ignored us and only presented the menu to our friends and barely deigned to answer when I spoke to him. Maybe he was annoyed when my huband asked for his mocktail with no ice and they changed it from a regular glass to a small one. Hubby asked why the portion was so small and was lectured about portions having to meet their standards. I think the message could be got across in a friendlier way. A touch of regret in the tone and a smile would go a lot further....The other waiters were always polite and friendly. We ordered the creme brule. It was excellent! Our friends had the chocolate mousse in a spoon, and I don't remember what else because I was too busy focusing on our dessert. I would go back but don't relish meeting the bartender.
The food I rated 4 because the portions could be a little larger. The atmosphere and service got points taken off for the unfriendly bartender. All the other details are excusable for being a new restaurant. BTW the lighting was just right. Few restaurants get this right as they are either too dark...
