Quite average, and looks fancier from outside than the food and service delivered. Having spent some time in Lisbon, I can tell the food didn’t take me back there. I went for a pastel de nata with my coffee, and it was really terrible - the cream was very firm, heavy. Back in Portugal, it’s so melty I could gobble down many units. It comes from Da Silva bakery btw! Regarding the avocado toast, the avocado and egg were on point, however the toast was an unremarkable pain de mie or sandwich bread (which could have been purchased from a Costco). The presentation was very basic - I would have expected just a little bit more effort. The coffee and fresh juice were good. The service was prompt. I had more than 2 waiters coming to my table, and at times all together, which felt a bit awkward. There are probably more staff than customers at the restaurant. The setting consists of tables of 4, fairly comfy for 2 people, with blue and white decor reminding of Portugal. The outside space is very pleasant and bright, although you would be exposed to beggars. The the one inside over 2 floors lacks lighting. The ambiance is uninspiring. However, the restaurant hosts a live Fado performance every second and fourth Saturday...
Read moreThis was my second time here, one of my favorite Polanco restaurants, and I'm glad I came although I regret it'd been a year since my first visit.
Service is always attentive and responsive, including respect for one's observing its occasional obtrusiveness.
I've had the seafood soup twice in a row - adore it - this time with a couple of appetizers, including mussels, that were great.
Ambience is very pleasant, refined even, with mellow live music on a Saturday night.
If I were forced at knife point to be critical, I'd observe that, my first time 'round, the two desserts were stunning enough that -- remember, please, I'm at knife point -- I've dreamt of one of them. Some sort of simple layer cake that, without really a crunch, resisted the fork's tines' penetrating the layers; it was a shocking wonder of a pastel. This time 'round, well, I'd hoped for my layer cake! I settled for the dense chocolate tort that, while equally subtle in its own way, was nowhere near...
Read moreIt was a nice place. I do have to say the servers were very entitled on tips. I was taken back and I have noticed throughout my trip waiters will select on your behalf the tipping % which I didn’t like at all. I had no discretion that was my experience there. I have been to Portugal and lived a Portuguese neighborhood in toronto and this food is ok. You can definitely find better, the bread / butter was delightful, the chicken was ok. We also felt like the waiter didn’t provide clarity on the menu kept pushing certain dishes which is fine but it turned that he didn’t want to listen to request we had when shared back. The desert was super we didn’t bother and they kept in a showcase which they pointed at repeatedly and offered to...
