Located in the bustling and artistic Roma Norte neighborhood, Fugaz is a vibrant culinary destination that impresses from the moment you walk through its doors. This small and cozy restaurant creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, attracting a hip crowd that often includes creative professionals from the graphic design world. The eclectic vibe is complemented by an ever-changing menu that promises fresh, unexpected culinary delights.
Upon my visit, I followed the unwritten rule suggested by fellow food enthusiasts—order one of each dish first, and then order more of what captures your heart. This strategy did not disappoint. Every tostada, crafted with precision and flair, is a standout. However, the shrimp tostada claims the crown as my favorite dish. Piled high with succulent shrimp on a crisp tortilla, it's a testament to Fugaz's ability to perfect what might seem simple at first glance.
The chef at Fugaz takes a bold approach to flavors, incorporating ingredients like sesame, honey, and melon in ways that pleasantly surprise the palate. These innovative combinations might not be for everyone, but they are certainly a dream for the adventurous eater. Most dishes feature a blend of fresh fish, fruits, and vegetables, offering a refreshing twist on traditional Mexican fare.
Fugaz is also commendable for its inclusivity in dietary accommodations. The menu is teeming with gluten-free and vegetarian options, and the chef shows a flexible attitude towards adjusting dishes to meet various dietary needs. This aspect makes Fugaz a welcoming spot for all diners, regardless of their food preferences.
Despite the menu's propensity for change, regulars can find solace in the constant presence of the beloved shrimp tostada. This dish has earned its permanence on the menu and continues to draw patrons back time and again.
In conclusion, Fugaz stands out not only for its innovative culinary experiments and stellar dish execution but also for its cool, welcoming atmosphere. It's a gem nestled among the culinary riches of Roma Norte, and a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique dining experience in...
Read moreI never write reviews, but feel obliged to do that people could be warned.
Having been to CDMX multiple times and explored a lot, this has been by far the worst experience. Food is terrible and expensive.
There was nobody there when we arrived. We still decided to give it a try. It was a horrible decision. Now I know why there were no customers.
Nothing wrong with the service. But the food was 1/5.
We got the tostada, which was average. Given the price, it was a 3/5. But then the main dish, which was a grilled fish in polenta, really threw us off. Itself deserves a 1/5. And it was 400 pesos, which is relatively high compared to what you can get in the area.
I wish someone had warned me, but I was about to have one of the worst meals had, in my entire life. I have been to tons of places, and am very adventurous with food. All restaurants have hits and misses. But nothing remotely compares to their grilled fish. It was not cooked through, very greasy, with a bland presentation. It is hard to describe what was off but after eating it my body and mind felt extremely upset and GROSSED OUT.
I’m sorry to say this but it was absolutely one of the MOST DISGUSTING thing I’ve ever consumed and I just want to throw it up. My boyfriend felt the same and said that it was a traumatizing experience for him.
Price: We spent 650+ pesos for two people. There’s wayyyy better restaurants in the neighborhood for much cheaper. I would avoid...
Read moreEaten here several times over the past year. Always had a great meal experience. The menu is small and constantly changes, but always with a theme of fresh ingredients and different flavors. If you tire of the same menu items, this is the place to visit. There seems to always be at least one, probably more, vegetarian dishes on the menu. I’m not vegetarian but I love a chef who respects vegetables and can treat them as the focus for an individual dish. I’ve enjoyed menus here where I had nothing but vegetables and throughly enjoyed the creativity of the chef. I could say the same with the seafoods he incorporates into or focuses on for individual dishes. It’s just always a treat to visit and be wowed by a new style or flavor combination or ingredient. This is where I come when I need an escape from the same old tropes of so many restaurants in the area.
There is a curated drink menu, with some fun and delicious mixed drinks and a quite diverse wine selection now added. I could easily come just to enjoy cocktails. My service has always been warm and friendly. I don’t speak Spanish but have never had a problem ordering. Each trip to Mexico City has to include a visit to...
