Balam House — Restaurant in Mexico City

As I was walking thru the historic part of CDMX my family and I decided to look for a place to have desert after we visited a fine restaurant. We ordered Tea and a couple of pastries they had on the menu, we also decided to have a couple of beers that they had on the menu. On the menu they didn’t specify additional servings per order which they made us buy in order to drink a beer. We did, as we just wanted to enjoy sitting, talking and eating desert. Our order took about 40 min for microwave fries and guacamole. We wanted to order a second beer and the waiter told us he could serve us with the condition of another appetizer. We didn’t want to be there and it felt uncomfortable been in the establishment. The desert was good but walking around further we realized that theirs so many other places we can sit, chat, have what we pleased and didn’t feel the rush of being kicked out.. Over all the place was also very expensive for what you get.. Trust m, there’s other nicer places with better customer...

I've been here for breakfast. The food was good and the cappuccino had a nice foam and the coffee was fine as well. What was really disappointing was the payment. I said that I wanted to add a 10% tip to the bill. The first time the POS failed. So the waitress typed everything in again, held the device to me and the payment went through. She didn't offer me the receipt though and went away rather quickly. A few moments later, my credit card company informed me how much I've been charged: it was the bill + 15% tip. Might have been a mistake, but the circumstances seemed rather fishy to me. Given the alternatives in the area, I'll skip this place...

They have really amazing coffee and the baristas were super friendly and helpful. Would recommend for a to-go cup of coffee as it’s good quality and well prepared. The issue comes with actually sitting in the restaurant. The service is bad - they had to remake a drink three times before it was correct - im assuming our waiter didn’t communicate the drink correctly to the bar because it was made correctly immediately when we asked the baristas to remake it. The food came out at different times and by the time the second plate came out and was incorrect I didn’t have the energy to get it corrected. It’s a pretty location, just not worth...
