Read moreMy husband made the mistake of booking us Valentine’s Day dinner here because of the high ratings and rave reviews. Our reservation was for 8pm. We got there at 8:05 and there were about 50-60 at the reception with the same reservation time. We tried to check in the manager said ok waved us off. It was very strange. We waited another 5 minutes and I spoke to the receptionist and she informed us that she didn’t have our reservation. He showed it to her and it wasn’t until then that she said that while l we all had reservations, the restaurant didn’t receive any of them, hence the chaos. She finally took our name and added us to the list. Needless to say we were upset because we had to wake up early and needed to leave by a certain time. We waited what seems like forever and they called us to a table at 8:46. She brought us to the table and it wasn’t cleaned yet so they put us at the bar for another 10 minutes while they prepared it. We got to the table and didn’t get a menu for 10 mins. We were extremely thirsty so we ordered bottled water and didn’t get it for 30 mins. I ordered a glass of wine and didn’t get it for an hour and 10 minutes. We reminded our waited at least 10 times that we didn’t get our drinks and he never brought it. It wasn’t until we were so fed up that my husband got a manager that we got our drinks. When we ordered our food we were told it would take about 30 minutes and we were fine with that. It was an hour plus before we got our food and when I tell you it was probably the worst cut of steak we have both ever had I am not exaggerating! We ordered wagyu and other expensive cuts and it was so tough. This is all a shame because the place is beautiful but I will never return again. We gave them grace because it was Valentine’s Day and because of the computer glitch, but the service was beyond acceptable. It was sub par and not on brand for other high end restaurants in CDMX. They really ruined my wonderful...
Read morePrime Steakhouse was the reservation I was most looking forward to, and overall, everything was very good. That said, my expectations were quite high given both the price point and its recognition as a former Top 100 Steakhouse in the world. While some of my comments may sound like nitpicking, I think they’re fair in this context.
The ambiance felt a little off. The room was brightly lit, with televisions looping images of cities like New York and Los Angeles, and the music was a mix of EDM and pop hits—including Michael Jackson. Personally, that combination didn’t match the refined atmosphere I’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber.
Service began on a rocky note. I explained to our server (with the help of translation) that we wanted to go slightly off-script by ordering a few appetizers and sharing a wagyu steak as part of that course. When I asked about the wagyu minimum, the server confirmed 150 grams, which I agreed to. However, confusion quickly set in—our server repeatedly pushed us to order salads and insisted the food wouldn’t be enough, despite my clarifying that this was just for starters and mains would follow. A manager then stepped in and corrected the minimum to 300 grams, which was frustrating after I’d just been told otherwise. At first, the manager also seemed unsure of what we were trying to do, repeating lines about “this is what we do here” and encouraging us to order more food.
To their credit, after this hiccup, the manager took a more active role and the service improved significantly. They made excellent recommendations for both wine and cocktails, and from that point forward, the experience felt warm, attentive, and professional.
As for the food, it lived up to the reputation. Every dish we had was executed at a very high level, and the quality of the steak was exactly what I’d expect from a...
