My three adult children, 32, 32, and 34, and I planned a short 5 day trip to Mexico City all centered around food. We started our first evening at Samsaa with a 7 pm reservation. By 11pm that night I was sicker than I’ve ever been in my life vomiting and unable to stand. Shortly after, one of my sons experienced the same thing, followed by my daughter with the same symptoms. The last of one got sick the following morning.
We ate the seaweed wrapped dumplings, lo mein, mushroom claypot, spicy crab, duck and a couple of desserts. We’re thinking either the seafood or duck egg caused the food poisoning.
Overall, we were not impressed with the food. Nothing especially stood out, although the duck was probably the most tasty, along with the tea cake. The moon cake described as so amazing was nothing special. The drinks sounded amazing on the menu, but the black tea infused margarita I had was just okay. The atmosphere was pretty and intimate, but the lighting was so low we couldn’t see our food closely. The tables were tiny (two small circle style bar tables pushed together for the four of us) and barely had enough room for the food. With tip our bill totaled about $300 for the four of us, definitely expensive!
It took until Tuesday when we felt like eating again and then had to leave on Wednesday. Samsaa left me with a Mother’s Day weekend experience I hope to forget and spoiled the vacation we were so...

The food and cocktails were clearly well thought out and carefully designed, however, the flavor profiles were a little off for my liking. I found a few items to be overly sweet, bev and food alike. And yes I know the cultures they pull inspiration from have those characteristics, it is part of why I love East Asian cuisine the most, however in this case it was a little too much in one direction. Price point is on the higher end, but definitely makes sense when you see the ingredients used and the preparation involved. I would love to give it another try, especially for their afternoon tea after seeing that it is one of...

The food was a tad too sweet for my personal liking, but I appreciate that the server was able to help us navigate the gluten free items.
My favorite dish was the nem lui. The drink selection is good - we had a nice bottle of cider.
Will probably come back to try the tea & dessert another time as those seem to be their...
