I really wanted this place to work for me, but our dinner here resulted in days of illness for myself and someone else in our party. Another person in our party who was similarly sensitive as myself was hesitant to eat here, as he had avoided all restaurant food up to that point and was flying home the next day.
We ordered pad thai that night and I woke up in pain the next day. This was the beginning of days of extreme digestive symptoms. At first, I thought maybe it was something else. I had been eating at many restaurants. But a few weeks later, I had a chance to talk with the other person who had eaten the pad thai here, and he had identical symptoms as myself. It was at this point that we realized the food here was the only common culprit between our diets.
Now, there were two other people in our party who did not get sick. But if you are sensitive or have allergies, you might want to avoid this place and not take a risk. I had good luck eating in the same town at many other restaurants and did not get sick. And my friend avoided all restaurants but here, and ended up getting sick. I can't prove what it was, but I wouldn't wish what happened to us for...
Read moreI have been to Mao Mau several times over the past few years. The food used to be amazing, but the quality and portion size have both diminished. The owner has never been very friendly but this las visit exceeded my lowest expectations. I was planning on dining with a couple of friends who haven’t had Asian food in a long time, one of which has a child. After I booked (was very difficult because they never ever pick up the phone) another friend told me they had rejected her once with her kid and asked me to make sure it would be ok. I then went on and inquired if it was serious or a joke that they didn’t take kids. Someone then told me they had indeed been told that they no longer allow kids to avoid “uncomfortable dining experiences” for the rest of their guests. They claim they’re all for “diversity and inclusiveness” but they discriminate against mothers/children. Of course I canceled my reservation and they won’t be having my business anymore. Such a distasteful attitude. It’s also kind...
Read moreWe were looking forward to trying this place. However after seeing a review where the owner attacked vegans because a vegan didn't enjoy their meal, I won't be giving them my business. Claiming "we only cater to vegans because we have to - dammed of we do, and dammed of we don't. Your review is proof of we can never satisfy vegans." the owner goes on to say this person should have read the other angry reviews left by angry vegans and suggests that vegans should say away. So as a vegan I will absolutely be avoiding this restaurant. Way to run business away while earning another poor review!!
I completely understand as an open air restaurant you can't do anything about mosquitoes, but you certainly can do something about your bad attitude, and I read several reviews where people complained about the poor service and rude...
