First time I’ve ever been inspired to write a google review. Had one of the best restaurant experiences of my life at Sustain/OG Tulum. The owner Jonathan is a molecular mixologist and his bar program stands next to (and for a few drinks, topped) any that you’d find in Chicago, New York, or London. Extremely creative with specialty cocktails as well and classics that were just gorgeous, complex, approachable, and exciting (the bartender made some fantastic mezcal Negronis in addition to the specialty stuff). Dinner was also amazing, with a smaller menu and local and sustainable ingredients. There was one small-plates dish that we didn’t love, and they graciously took it back and made the experience right with a round of cocktails. All of the other food we had (especially the whole fish) was absolutely incredible. The bartender, waitstaff, and chefs were so kind and took a lot of care in explaining the menu ingredients with a lot of pride and detail. They were also very conscious about a lactose allergy and made sure any sauces that contained butter was served on the side so that my dining partner could still enjoy it. We ended up talking to the owner for a long time at the end of our meal, exchanging stories about life, cooking, cocktails, and the pursuit of following what makes you happy. I dunno, this review might sound totally goofy but we felt like we had enjoyed dinner with friends and will definitely be back for at least some more cocktails before we go home. If you’re looking for an elevated food and drinks experience that still has the hospitality of the smaller spots in Tulum, this is the place.

If you’re in Tulum and looking for an unforgettable dining experience, OGs is a must-visit. From the moment you step in, you’re welcomed into a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere that perfectly captures the spirit of Tulum. Chef David is nothing short of a culinary genius. His attention to detail and creativity are evident in every dish. The flavors are bold, fresh, and expertly balanced, showcasing the best of local and international influences. Each plate is a masterpiece that tells its own story—something you don’t often find elsewhere. Our dining experience was made even more memorable by the incredible team. Marcelo and Carolina, our waiters, provided impeccable service with genuine warmth and attentiveness. They made sure every detail was taken care of, creating an experience that felt personal and special. And let’s not forget Vicente, the bartender. His craft cocktails were out of this world! Whether you’re a fan of classics or love exploring new flavors, Vicente’s creations are a highlight of the evening. OGs is more than just a restaurant—it’s a destination for incredible food, exceptional service, and a truly unique ambiance. Chef David and his team have created something extraordinary here. I can’t recommend it enough!

We ate dinner at the OG's Tulum last week and it was phenomenal. We started with the kale salad which was a great size to share. I'd never had dates with kale before, but it was an excellent addition to the salad. We ordered the lamb and the short rib as our main dishes, and I wasn't expecting the size of the short rib that arrived. It is definitely an intimidating portion, so you'll likely end up with some packed up to go. When the mains were served, the staff described the preparation process for the meats (which was seared, smoked, and roasted over the course of more than a day), and described the other ingredients on the plates. The jalapeno and yucca puree served with the lamb was the perfect balance of sweet, spicy and earthy flavours and I couldn't get enough of it. In addition to the food we each ordered a couple cocktails. Mezcal was prominently featured on the drink menu and we both enjoyed the Cathy Spritz and the Golden Grass. I highly recommend The OG's Tulum, it was on par or better than fine dining I've experienced elsewhere, and creatively immersed you into traditional cuisine of the region.

Will attempt an unbiased review here.

Overall - this restaurant is good, but there is just better in Tulum, especially considering the price and service, so use your vacation dinners more wisely than I with this in mind.

Happy I came to try the food, it was mostly quite good. As other reviews have mentioned, the gnocchi was very good, and the smoke is quite a good touch. 5/5

The lobster tacos hardly taste like lobster so keep that in mind when ordering - that dimension simply isn't there in the tacos. Good taco still, and unique. 4/5

I may have come in on a bad day, but given that this location is currently rated at 4.8 stars, I was very surprised at the strange service. The staff got my order wrong, didn't even acknowledge it at all when I informed this was not what I ordered, and when I offered to swap the gnocchi to cover up for their mistake, they were going to serve me the extra dishes on top of the gnocchi order. Weird.

You might say "oh it's just language barrier," but at least from my experience, I've had several very positive experiences even with non native English speaking staff.

It's about the attitude, I liked how another review said it, besides the lady in the front, I felt a little unwelcome or unwanted. At these price points, I should not even need to mention the service at all. I do not feel the 4.8 stars and price point currently match the level of service and atmosphere. If you decide to go, I hope you have a better...
