We were in San Miguel de Allende for eleven days in mid-December and visited this restaurant at the high-end Rosewood Hotel twice. Our first meal was Sunday brunch. It was not cheap but we spent three hours here eating, enjoying the courtyard garden, watching the food preparation theatre and people watching. The food was amazing. All the quintessential Mexican foods done to a very high standard. An excellent way to treat yourself will visiting SMA.
Our second meal was an anniversary celebration and we were joined by two friends who had a number of dietary restriction. The staff and kitchen were very patient and accommodating to our two friends. All of us raved about our meals. Not a cheap meal, but the best during our three weeks holiday in Panama and Mexico.
A special mention must be made about our waiter, Carlos who served us at brunch as well as at our anniversary dinner. He obviously enjoys his job and is driven to satisfy his customers. Carlos was a big part in making these meals special for us.
Don’t expect a cheap meal here but do expect a positively memorable...
Read moreUsed to be Excellent. Not anymore!! Lost the superb wait staff and not even a tablecloth or placemat. Missing one of meat entrees. NO LAMB! Raviolis were pasty with thick goopy white sauce. Didn't eat! Ordered "special" rib eye steak and it arrived medium well and was ordered medium rare. About 1/2 thick steak, over salted and served with three tiny toothpick size asparagus with blob of mole sauce on plate. Very unattractive "special" of the day. I HATE to send food back so I ate what I could and will never go back. I don't know what happened to this restaurant. We have eaten here for years for special occasions or when we just wanted beautiful service and food. The chef must have left. This was a Friday evening in November 2021. So many EXCELLENT restaurants in SMA. Choose...
Read moreIf you get the opportunity to sit outside - please do so! It makes the experience even greater. My sisters and I were trying to find a high end restaurant without a reservation and luckily 1826 was it. The staff are all polite, and really quick. Our waiter was so kind and diligent. The chef even came out to make sure our steak and lamb was prepared to our liking. I would definitely not miss out on their small dishes and the bread. The dishes are all a great combination of Mexican and European cuisine. Definitely try their cocktails as well.
