Pepe Ocaña is a cozy and attractive tapas bar in downtown Tangier, Morocco, on a quiet street below Boulevard Pasteur and close to Hôtel Rembrandt.
Several friends of mine were invited for its opening night, and they highly recommended the place. On my first visit on a late afternoon, I was greeted by a pleasant doorman who courteously opened the door for me.
After I walked inside, I sat on a bar stool and ordered a beer since I really just wanted to see the interior and meet the bartender and manager, Several customers were drinking at the bar while eating delicious tapas prepared in the kitchen.
Although pleadant jazz music was playing in the background, it was at a low level. There is strong WiFi, and the bartender will enter the code on your portable telephone.
It is a charming place to enjoy some drinks and remarkably delicious food or tapas. At some point, I will definitely return.
The daily menu is displayed on the blackboard. There were about 20 chairs at the bar and up against the wall, with standing room for others. Pepe Ocaña must be one of the best bars in all Tangier. You will not be...

To date we have found it is easier to find a bar with food rather than a restaurant with wine. So Pepe Ocana seemed like a good prospect!
As it turned out, the food was just superb - to start we had a traditional Spanish garlic prawns, calamari and baby octopus cooked in hot oil and other seasonings. Just wonderful - reminiscent of a similar dish we used to have at Capitan Torres in Sydney (long since gone 🥲).
Then we had mushrooms with Gorgonzola cheese which were great and, finally, a chicken dish with mushrooms and onions accompanied by rice - just to die for. Such wonderful flavours!
This was all washed down with a Moroccan red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah - very pleasant!
All in all a great treat - thanks to all of the staff...

The draft beer was crisp and refreshing. The espresso martinis were good and the stuffed mushrooms tasty! This place instantly became our new favorite spot in town. Huge shoutout to the amazing staff and the owner, you’ve created...
