Harati Newari Restaurant — Restaurant in Kathmandu Metropolitan City

Recently discovered an amazing Newari restaurant just outside of the Thamel area. My girlfriend and I talked to a lady from Bandipur and recommended this place for us for Newari food.

When we arrived at the place it was quite busy. There are many seating areas to choose from and it has a very traditional/relaxing atmosphere. The menu is also in Nepali, no English. So if you go ask the waiter for recommendations

Ended up ordering 2 Veg Khaja sets, red kidney soup, and Chatamari pizza. They were all very delicious! The red kidney bean soup was very unique and tasty as well.

This is a very popular restaurant in town which serves typical Newari cuisine (a part of Nepali food). This restaurant has been satisfying the food lovers for more than 25 years. Its located quite conveniently. Their main speciality is a platter with beaten rice, rosted buffalo meat (Chhoyala), marinated minced raw meat (Kachila), potatoes and bean sprout mixed pickle, roasted beans etc. They also serve dumplings, chicken, lamb, fish except pork and other vegetarian items as well. One of the old joints, Harati continues to live up to its reputation for excellent taste. The buff choela is packed with flavor and has just the right amount of spice—unlike many places where it can be overwhelmingly hot. The aloo tamu stands out with its unique taste and is definitely a must-try.

The only letdown today was the fokso—normally it’s crisp and flavorful, but this time it was a bit soggy. Hopefully just a one-off.
