Café Helmers — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Absolutely terrible experience. We came here with a few girlfriends and honestly, from the very first order, things went downhill.

We started with three Aperol Spritz. All three were extremely watered down — you could barely tell there was any Aperol in them at all. Just orange-tinted fizzy water. Complete joke.

Then came the bitterballen. We waited at least 15 minutes for them. Only 6 pieces. Seriously? For a group? Alright, fine. Next — sweet potato fries. The portion was tiny, like a sad little kids’ snack. And on top of that — burnt. Not crispy, not tasty, just blackened fries. Disgusting.

As for the nachos… that was a whole saga. We ordered them, waited 30 minutes, and only then they told us they had forgotten our order. When they finally brought them out, we had ordered large but got something smaller than a small. For €11, we got a sad pile of chips, enough for maybe four each. I wish I was exaggerating. €11!

Lastly, we ordered Bloody Marys. Mine tasted like tomato juice with no alcohol at all. I tried the others — theirs had vodka. Mine? Just a red disappointment in a glass.

This place is overpriced, unorganized, and the food is trash. Do yourself a favor — skip it. You’ll only leave annoyed,...

they pack this place to make as much money as possible - to the point that people were pushing and shoving each other around. my friends and i got purposefully elbowed in the back by grown men multiple times. couldn't hear the people sat right next to me because of the 'music'. people on 'security' on the door did nothing but stare into space. worst experience i've had in a bar. watered down our drinks, plus drink prices are inconsistent and aren't displayed at the bar so good luck getting charged what you actually owe. (charged €19 for a gin and tonic????? in what world) avoid...

Every time I’m in Amsterdam I always like to visit Cafe Helmers. The service is great and super friendly, drinks and food are great, they have a beautiful atmosphere, and specially on weekends when they have a dj, the vibe is super nice and fun. This is definitely one of my favorite places in Amsterdam. 100% Gezellig. Great to come with friends, make more friends, enjoy the afternoon sun and make really good memories.
