I love Cafe Cook. I live nearby and go there to eat every time i have a chance. Not only because the terrace is wonderful, but because the food is creative and usually very well prepared. It wasn't tonight. The tuna we had tonight would only be acceptable on the Trans-Siberian Express. We asked as we were ordering how the tuna was prepared and we were assured that it was seared. The tuna we were served was very well done. As was everything else on that plate. Sending the food back would mean shifting focus from the gezelligheid (the reason for our coming to Cafe Cook) to the fact that the plate we were served had the standards one would expect from a workcamp cafeteria in Uzbekistan. Well, not only was there a chilly draft but for some reason the table was vibrating as if the neighbor from downstairs had the washing machine running. That'd still be acceptable but the food wasn't great either. The complementary starter, bread and olive oil, was gimmicky presented but the olive oil was rancid, far beyond its expiration date. Given the not so cheap, but still classic Amsterdamian prices, we were at least hoping for somewhat price-appropriate food. However, the mashed potatoes were made with powder you can buy at the local Albert Heijn. Not even milk was added. Very very disappointing and certainly not...
