THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE EVER
Allergy information is a joke - at least for the staff in this restaurant.
In theory, the menu contains information about allergens, but it turns out that this information is incorrect - and according to the staff, it is the customer's fault if they trust it.
I have a severe allergy to gluten and dairy products, so I was pleased to see allergen information on the menu. Unfortunately, after eating one of the dishes, I started to feel unwell and asked the staff if the dish was definitely wheat-free. It turned out that the dish contained large amounts of wheat and the information on the menu was false - and the staff knew this very well. The staff asked me if I had an allergy, which I've confirmed - but they weren’t bothered by my answer. And according to the waitress, it was my own fault because I assumed that what was on the menu was correct.
The whole situation is absurd, and the attitude towards the customer is shocking and unacceptable. Especially since this is directly misleading to the customer.
Allergies are a serious matter. Someone could end up in hospital - but clearly it's not a serious matter for the staff at this restaurant, since they are blatantly lying about it on the menu and just don't care at all.
As a result, I paid for the dish, after which I got a fever, felt terrible the next day, and still - two days later - have not recovered.
I have eaten at many restaurants around the world and have never before experienced such a dismissive attitude.
I will never go back...
Read moreSituated in Lange Niezel, in the heart of Amsterdam's red light area and just a stone's throw away from Chinatown's Zeedijk, is the multi award winning China Sichuan Restaurant/Chengdu. Not long ago, it was voted as one of the top 15 restaurants in Amsterdam and it was the only Chinese restaurant to make the list. The restaurant is decorated in vibrant colours with murals, paintings and other oriental works of art. A sea of lanterns grace the ceiling. This split-level place has a great ambience. Chinese melodies play softly in the background. The menu is beautifully illustrated with colour photographs of all the dishes on offer. Symbols of chilli peppers give an indication as to the heat of the dishes. These range from one to four. The most ferocious on offer is Chungking Famous Chilli Chicken, a dry chicken dish without sauce where the heat gradually builds to a crescendo, definitely not for the uninitiated. You won't find any European style Chinese cuisine here. The chefs originate from the Sichuan Province where they spent years mastering centuries old family and regional recipes. There is a mouth watering selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, all of which are beautifully presented in a variety of tableware to enhance the dining experience. There is a well stocked bar with an impressive assortment of drinks and spirits. Staff are very helpful and attentive, happy to assist with recommendations. The restaurant also has a branch in the nearby...
Read moreThe restaurant looked good, we have been 4 persons, ordered 4 different meals (each meal about 20€), food came within 10 minutes and looked good but we have been really disappointed - we are not picky usually but all meals tasted kind of the same, very very fatty and oily, my noodle soup was almost only oil and way too salty to eat. We tried the meals from each other and after we had enough we asked to pay and to get a discount because it really was not good, the waiter discussed with us that they eat it like this in china and claimed nobody in china eats the soup or the sauce of the dishes and because we ate most of it (we tried every meal from each other to compare) that’s unfair that we don’t want to pay the full price and they will call the police if we don’t pay - in the end we got a small discount but the food and the discussing that wasn’t worth it in the end. I love Chinese food but that was the worst I have ever tried. Don’t know where all the good reviews come from, maybe they have a new chef or something but none of us would recommend to go there except you like food soaking in...
