I took my mom here while vacationing in Amsterdam and i've never had a worse meal in my life at a restaurant. For context - both my mom and I got the bibimbap and we are both korean.
Even if the food isn't that great - i usually don't write negative reviews but this was so aggressively inedible that as a Korean, I felt embarrassed that someone was selling this as Korean food. Also - the owner seemed shady.
1/ right when we entered the restaurant - the owner already was making excuses on why we wouldn't like the food. She found out we were korean right away because my mom and I were speaking korean to each other. Immediately after - she repeated multiple times that koreans don't like her food because (A) the food is too salty, (B) the dishes are vegan so there's fake meat, and (C) it doesn't taste like korean food. Us being korean had nothing to do with not liking the food. the food was bad because it was bad. It so salty that both of us literally couldn't eat it and picked out the rice. Also - I've been vegan for more than 10 years so I don't have a problem with fake meat and know how bad fake meat can get. I don't know why she would she sell the food to us if she knew we wouldn't like it.
2/ the owner was insistent on not taking my mom's request to remove the fake meat and never offered to refund or comp us for the meal or at least my mom because she overrode my mom's request. my mom didn't want the fake meat on her bowl because she didn't feel like eating soy/bean meat and the owner told us that it's salty. Even if my mom didn't tell the owner that she didn't want it because her stomach wasn't feeling great - the owner shouldn't have ignored my mom's request because there were no signs that modifications to dishes were not allowed. Instead of listening to the request - the owner told us that if mom didn't like it - then she can just take it out. l.o.l.
3/ Everything but the rice and the couple pieces of bamboo shoots in the bowl were over salted including the red pepper sauce. also - the red pepper sauce had no business being that salty. the version you put in bibimbap is supposed to be a bit savory, tangy, spicy, and a bit salty. The salt does not overwhelm the flavor profile of the sauce like the sauce she gave us. It tasted like salt water. I'm assuming she mixed it using store bought red pepper paste with other ingredients because it's laborious to make plain red pepper paste at home so almost no one does it anymore. The owner could have just given the sauce plain straight from the container without mixing anything in it. The sauce would have at least been spicy, sweet, and a tad salty. I'm so glad i stopped my mom from pouring it or else we wouldn't have even salvaged the rice.
we couldn't even complain or ask for the plain sauce because she was in busy in the kitchen the whole time. Also - the other parts of the dishes were so salty that we didn't think that having plain red pepper paste would solve the issue.
4/ the owner was not apologetic at all. We handed the bowls back and it was pretty obvious that we didn't enjoy the meal since we left everything but the rice. the owner never acknowledged what happened and just rang me up
i'm writing this review because I dont want people to get the wrong impression that de patchka's food is representative of korean food. they sell salt bombs. I haven't tried the other dishes but given that the fake meat is in multiple dishes and how bad the food was - i have no doubts that the other food is probably...
Read moreAbsolutely loved eating here. The restaurant is run by one woman who does EVERYTHING. It's mostly takeout but she does offer a handful of reservations per day. I was lucky enough to snag the last available reservation for my last night in Amsterdam and it was the perfect way to end the trip.
The space is small and cute. The menu is fairly small but all of the options are so good it was still hard to choose. I ended up getting the Jjapagetti noodles with black bean sauce, mushrooms and soy beef with a side of kimchi. It was all insanely good. I was the last reservation of the night so when I finished she wasn't running around like crazy like when I first came in so I had a chance to talk to her a bit and she was incredibly friendly and fun to talk to. Loved everything about...
Read moreAmazing Korean vegan food, creative and full of flavors. You don't need to be a vegan to enjoy these incredible foods, just an open mind and the desire to try something new and excellent. My teen boys who usually indulge on meat enjoyed these dishes. The menu is small and the portions are generous. We ordered 3 dishes, bulgogi pastry, and red bean mochi dessert. We loved and enjoyed everything. The pastry is a must and also the dessert, homemade food prepared with love!! We all felt so good and energized after eating. The owner is friendly, talented, hard working and organized, under-staffed but the restaurant runs efficiently and smoothly. Make sure to make a reservation as the dining area is small. Highly recommend and we'll for sure visit again when we come back...
