I don’t usually leave such negative reviews, but honestly had one of the worst experiences at this restaurant the other night with a group of friends, mostly due to the service. Our waiter was a lovely guy personally but really did not seem to know what was going on. We were not given menus when we arrived, and then we were asked if we were ready to order our food - without even seeing the menu. Half of the dishes we ordered were out of stock (told after we ordered and waited 10 minutes) and the waiter did not know the food on the menu and could not translate from Dutch as he did not understand Dutch. We asked for another wine glass for my friend who later joined the table, who was also going to join in on our bottle, for the waiter to have misunderstood and brought another bottle of wine instead. We explained we just wanted another glass which he never ended up bringing after about 3 times asking. The service was so slow, we were only able to order once within the entire 2.5 hour period. At the end of the night we asked for the bill, and were immediately presented with the card machine. I asked if we could get the bill as standard also so we could see how to split and he responded that they don’t allow the bill to be split at this restaurant so we have to transfer each other. I was so frustrated at this point I ended up just paying and asking for the bill anyway. only to see that he has not removed the second bottle of wine he mistakenly added. So we had paid €48 extra for wine we didn’t order or receive. When I explained this, he said there was nothing they could do other than write my bank details down for them to transfer the money. WHICH I AM STILL WAITING FOR!!! I have worked in the service industry for years and am an extremely understanding person when it comes to mistakes and mishaps hence why I never leave negative reviews. But this...

The place is cool and the drinks are good, however some of the staff (the host) was very rude with me and my friends. She took one of the stools we were sitting on but was empty at that very moment, because the place was full, even though we said it was taken. Then, I tried to complain but she started arguing with me. She said that she was doing her job trying to serve customers and then I pointed out that we were also clients, she gave a senseless argument. She said I was not able to understand her "Amsterdam" sense of humor because I was american (which I am not, she even made assumptions about my nationality). She then started bragging about how she knows this business so well and that I was the one being unreasonable, that she was hired because of her skills to understand "Amsterdam people" and that she was the best at it. What kind of host mistreats the clients and then instead of trying the situation starts arguing with them in an arrogant way? What is "understanding Amsterdam people"? Are they so different that you have to have particular skills to deal with them? Am I not an "Amsterdam person" because I was not born here, but I’ve been living here for the last year and a half? It was a very unpleasant evening because of this situation and I hope the host gets to understand that the basis of dealing with customers is understanding they are people and they...

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences of the year for me and my friends.

First thing, the restaurant had a funky smell lingering, as if they had moped with a dirty mop. We were sat in a table with almost no space in between with the one next to it, so sitting was tight and uncomfortable.

Second, they took forever to bring a cocktail and three salads and an avocado toast, and only when we asked if there was an issue with the order, they seemed to start preparing. Then the waitress came with sandwiches instead of chicken salads, so they had to make the salads again, which were small and overpowered by too much ginger and mayonaise. A salad that costs 13.50 euros should be way more decent.

Third, there was a mouse walking around an area of the restaurant, and upon telling them about it, they just went to have a look and didn't apologise nor do much about it.

We got a small discount at the end upon our request, not naturally from them.

All in all, a really bad experience. We will definitely...

There are a few reasons why I need to give it a three. I love the place and the vibe, with the trees inside and the leaves (it feels like you are having drinks in the jungle). The fries are excellent as well as the shrimp croquettes. But it's always super full and very hard to find a spot in one of the nice tables. Service wise, the first time I went I was a bit disappointed, cause the place is divided into "only drinks" and "also eating". Sometimes you just want a drink and it would be totally fine to sit on the first part, BUT it is always full. When we tried to sit in the other side, we were told we had to other food if we wanted to sit there, which I don't find fair to be honest. But eventually this is what we did. The second time it was easier and they were more flexible with people sitting in the eating part (Well, we also ate though!).

went Saturday night to De Tulp. The food took almost 50 minutes to arrive, the “dinner” menu didn’t specify the quantity of food in the plate…. Imagine my shock when i saw how little food on the plate (pictured bellow). I ordered“SHRIMP SKEWER, KOHLRABI SALAD, CHILI BUTTER SAUCE” for €16 and a person with me got the “BEEF/VEG DUMPLINGS, CHILI, BEURRE NOISETTE” for 14€ and it were 3 dumplings in total, not even bigger ones! It should be specified the quantity of “dinner” food on the plates considering the price or even change the name on the menu from dinner to something else. There was also a dj playing, so good ambiance but overall the experience was not it!

It is astonishing how discriminating the workers are, asking to be served and then told the place is closing, then the same guy serves a white person and then a white girl. We are in a world that is internationalized. I’m so surprised I experienced this in Amsterdam. Truly, I’m never recommending this place to any visiting person, especially to tourists. Attitudes and service matter I am an owner of a cafe and restaurant, and I know how critical this is, this action is unforgivable and unforgettable, and if I had a chance to give a negative star for this experience, I would give it.
