So I just found my favourite new Ramen and Gyoza place in Amsterdam!!!
Ambience: (5/5) Clean, lots of seating, great mix of single and larger tables. Good set of Japanese music in the background, not too loud but adds to the ambience. The images on the wall are great.
Service: (5/5) Quick and responsive. One of the better service I have experienced here in Amsterdam.
Food: (5/5) Loved it!!! Okay, so I ordered the spicier of the food since the Indian in me craved the spice. But the Spicy Mala Gyoza and the Spicy fried Chicken (Spicy okonomi Kara-Age) was incredible. But if I was to pick one, I would go with the Gyoza. So well made. The coating was perfectly crunchy while the filling was very flavourful. The touch of coriander on the top added the right amount of freshness to the dish. Excellent presentation and overall flavour notes. I will have to come back for the Ramen and add to this review.
Summary: (5/5) Totally worth the visit if you are into asian food or looking for some great spicy food. Highly recommended in the Pijp area. Drop by, you will not regret it!!!
Update: (5/5) Love the Ramen even more!! Just get here and you will love it. Brilliant food and brilliant service. You can’t ask for more!!
Update: (5/5) The pick-up is extremely well done. The service is quick and the precautions are great. Loved the packaging and made it easy to sit outside and actually enjoy the food. Have...
Read moreVegan friends - avoid at all costs.
First of all: noodles contain egg (not stated on the menu), and one of the veggie options even contains fish (!!!).
But that’s just the beginning: we ordered two veggie miso ramen soups without noodles, one with rice, which was proposed as a replacement, and the other without any replacement, i.e., only vegetables with broth.
Not only were we charged the full price, but ALSO the price of the rice as an extra on top of that.
We paid 32 euros for two soups with vegetables.
This makes me really sad, taking advantage of people for failing to provide options for their dietary needs in the first place. This should have been stated at the time of ordering (‘please note that the rice won’t be considered as a replacement but charged on top of the full price of the original dish’) for us to be able to make an informed decision.
And anyway, in general, the effort on their end would be really minimal - just give the possibility to replace egg noodles with regular noodles. A little goes a long way. Get more customers. Lead by example. Live in the freaking present.
Nice broth and polite waitress, but that obviously can’t and won’t be enough. (Sure, it’s enough to leave two stars rather than one, but definitely not enough to ever consider coming back - which is, luckily, not...
Read moreAn intimate and cozy restaurant, absolutely packed during lunch on a brilliantly sunny sunday. The place was recommended to me by a good friend who frequents the restaurant due to its amazing ramen and window seating overlooking the busy streets.
Service was swift, welcoming and attentive, as most good places are. Waiting time at the time was around 10 min. We got the window seat and we were very giddy about it. We like to people watch. Food came out quickly and it was all great! My tiny tiny caveat was that the teriyaki chicken, albeit was with brown meat, the meat was not as juicy as I had hoped. The ramen was good, but it did not excite my palate as much as I had hoped. The matcha ice cream was great however! It was just the right amount of sweetness to balance out the slight bitter undertone of matcha, with some crunch from the cookie/biscuit crumble, while the ice cream melts into the soft chewiness of red beans.
Atmosphere was great. Nothing to complain or comment on. The interior was decorated in a japanese style, and everything was wooden. Oh, the chopsticks are reusable and they have fish scale design!
Overall, a great experience, amazing pricing especially for the...
