Salsadogs — Restaurant in Amsterdam

As a native Texan who’s been living in the Netherlands for several years now, I’m always on a skeptical yet hopeful hunt to find a quality Tex Mex or Mexican fix. This is not the easiest task here in the nl sadly, so when I do find a nice place it holds a special place in my heart! I have to say so far, this place has definitely come the closest to my favorite spots back home and overall, I left very happy!

I’ll start out with the positives, which are the majority here. Flavor wise, this place was very very good and did not disappoint at all. I started with 3 beef birria tacos and a side of the broth it was cooked in for dipping- a classic combo! The array of sauces and salsas offered were also very nice and I liked everything I tried. My friends ordered a hotdog and the veggie taco and also really enjoyed their food. I’m very very happy with the taste and have only compliments in this area.

The service was also amazing and really stood out. There was only one guy working the stand (sadly didn’t get his name) and he was super friendly and engaging with us! We decided to stay there and eat our food on their picnic tables and exchanged a few laughs with him. We also witnessed another customer being very demanding and difficult with him during a busy rush but he remained calm and polite despite her off-putting bad behavior. I was impressed by his kindness and patience so I definitely wanted to mention him and leave him 5 stars for his wonderful service!

Now for the critical feedback. My biggest complaint here is definitely the portion sizes for the prices. While tasty, the tacos are very small. So unless you’re here for a snack, you’re likely not going to leave feeling full without spending €20+ euros. We didn’t realize this when we first ordered and ended up ordering more after. We still weren’t totally full in the end but had to call it quits for the sake of our wallets. I believe they do have a deal of 10 tacos for €25-30 or something (can’t remember the exact price). If I would have known we’d be spending close to that anyways for 5-6 tacos each, I would have ordered that to eat by myself. Also, maybe this is knit-picky, but I can’t help but mention I think the birria tacos should come with the side of broth (had to pay extra for it) because that is how they are usually served after all 🙈. I know that ingredients for good quality Tex Mex and Mexican food are quite difficult and pricey to come by here in the Netherlands, so I try to grant a bit of grace here. However, I do think the prices were still on the excessive side considering the portions. If it weren’t for the prices, I would have easily given this place 5 stars!

Great tacos, but asked whether we wanted cheese on the tacos and then charged us without being explicit about it- should be more upfront, adding a tiny bit of cheese was not worth 5 euros and did not make the tacos better- they tasted good without the extra cheese! Just to be aware...

I had the vegan Mexican dog and it was delightful and full of flavor. I tried the hot Cheetos locos and they were great but I just wished they were a little more spicy. The server was energetic, quick and kind. Highly recommend...
