I have spent most of my life in Southeast Asia. I have been to plenty of restaurants with Indonesian/Malaysian cuisine. This restaurant is special to me because it is the first Indonesian restaurant I have ever eaten at in any place in Europe. I was expecting the food to be good considering Dutch did colonize indonesia, and there were lots of Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and with oriental theme. There is a good amount of seating. The restaurant is at a prime location in Amsterdam at the flower market area. So a great option to eat then go shopping with family and friends. During lunch, the food is a fixed lunch menu. The menu is small which to me is a good thing. When menus are small that means the restaurant has to get the food right. The restaurant definitely serves traditional Indonesian food. It isn't modified in any way. The ingredients used are traditional. The flavor is authentic. The portions are very good for two people. They have a 2 people lunch set. I encourage you all to order it. You will get assorted curries including beef, chicken , two vegetable and chicken satay for starter. I order extra starter portion of beef and chicken satay. Make sure to ask for condiments of sate on the side. Make sure to also ask about dessert. The dessert was very well made. The food is no doubt good. I don't have anything else to compare to but outside the Netherlands in Asia. I have not tried other restaurants in Amsterdam, too. Keeping that in mind, I will rate this place for its food in the 4.0 range compared to food i ate outside Amsterdam. The service was very kind and honest. The staff always advised us on items and told us about the right quantity for us. Is this a restaurant I would bring my family back to, 100 percent. Parking is a challenge. It is better to take Uber or train and come on a non rainy day.

We ordered a special request for our son’s meal who has allergies. We asked specifically not to put egg in his fried rice, soy sauce, flour, and chilli. The fried rice came and there was chilli in the fried rice. The waiter insisted that it is paprika. I grew up with chilli n its family so i know how chilli looks like. But we put it aside. Then we found sausage inside the fried rice, the waiter also insisted that it is vegetarian it doesn’t consist of flour just soy tempeh and tofu. I was blown away by the ignorance of the waiter, knowing soy is the same ingredient as the soy sauce, she was stating it as if it was nothing. But my son in hungry so we just put the sausages aside and begin to eat the rice. And then we found that the whole rice was mixed with EGGS! How ignorant the whole team from the front of the house to the kitchen team to put eggs inside the food of someone who is mainly ALLERGIC to EGGS! At first she insisted it was chicken until we showed her. She was trying to save herself by saying that it is the kitchen’s fault that the whole food was made wrong. She did nothing wrong except that she didn’t make sure that it was made right. My son started to show allergic reaction all over his neck and head. It’s only God’s miracle that he didn’t go into anaphylactic episode. But this restaurant is the worst restaurant that treats people with allergies. We have been on street joints and they did better. What a shame.

Thanks to nearly 350 years of colonization the Netherlands is home to a sizable Indonesian population, and when it comes to Rijsttafel few places are so well regarded as Sampurna right in the heart of Amsterdam along one of the many canals. A low-lit space with religious carvings and tightly packed tables, the upstairs and downstairs separated by a bar, guests with reservations are greeted on time by pleasant staff happy to explain a menu built upon various shared “Rice Tables” plus a collection of a la carte dishes. Fairly priced with 35+ years of history, the “Sate Solo” just €31.50 for six skewers and ten side dishes plus complimentary Rice Crackers, plates designated as “spicy” are quite tame compared to Thai or Szechuan Cuisine, and fans of Sambal will likely love the boiled Egg atop a side of Rice. Busy without a lot of circulating air, the lower level quite warm even without the candles and heated serviceware, Cucumber Salad as well as one of Mangoes prove quite refreshing between tender bites of Meat highlighted by Sauces ranging from Soy to Peanut. Adding dried Coconut for Texture, this plus the Sauce from Goat Skewers perking up fairly basic Noodles, Desserts look interesting but ended up being skipped as a few large parties overwhelmed a single downstairs server leading to a lengthy wait for both the check and more water.

Food is mediocre. Nothing to rave about. Service and staff is bad. Restaurant is definitely violating occupancy along with food and safety standards.

I was here on a Tuesday for dinner. We had a reservation for 8:30pm. We were initially asked to sit on a very small table near the entrance door. We asked for something inside upon which the host made us sit right on the table next to the one initially offered. It was really cold and the door to the restaurant doesn't fully close. We were cold throughout the dinner.

Once seated, a serve explained us the menu. Noted down our allergies. We ordered 2 vegetarian rice tables. While we were having our dinner, the person on the next table noticed a mouse. She informed the server. We too did the same. The server was blah about it. They clearly know about it and don't care. Server later informed me that he has informed the manager but nothing was done about it.

The server staff is rude and uncaring. We had a few instances ourselves and noticed a few. For our dinner of only about ~1.5 hrs, this says a lot.

They need to have a person managing people coming into the restaurant. We noticed an old man walked in and simply sat on a 4 person table while other people, groups of 2, were made to sit on small tables. An asian family came in without reservation and were demanding for a table. Upon which, one of the server asked a couple on a table of 4 to move to a table of 2 in the middle of their dinner. Eventually, asian family were made to sit near the toilets which were leaking. They plugged the leak with paper towels.

When we were busy with our dinner, server comes in to ask how it is going and asked whether she can clear out our table. We still had more than 50% food on our table we were working on. I didnt understand the urgency since there werent a lot of people waiting outside.

I wonder how they are still open. Way too many health and food...
