The Poké Lab - De Pijp — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Earlier today, I ordered a combo meal of a bowl (with extra protein), a kimchi side, and a bottle of water to eat in the place. The total was EUR 21.15.

Firstly, after waiting for 10 minutes, only then one of the staffs came to my table to tell me that one of the sides I ordered (sweet potato) isn't available and that I have 2 options: either I wait for 7 more minutes or I can choose another topping for free. I chose pickled egg and the extra charge of EUR 1 was waived. So far so good.

But what really irked me was that the kimchi side that I ordered never came. That one alone costed me EUR 5.50, along with the 10% of the combo meal, it meant I wasted EUR 4.95 on a food item that simply never came. The staffs didn't even bother to tell me when the kimchi side was going to come, or even if they had kimchi at all.

While I can't speak for other, my first-time experience here made me feel that this restaurant carried a dishonest business. It's very unfortunate as their food is actually very good. But I'll never buy a combo meal from them ever again because they'll simply not serve you the side that you ordered. Only the bowl and drink...

I’ve enjoyed the poke bowls from The Poke Lab Amsterdam many times, and they’re always top notch! David and Riki, the owners, are incredibly friendly and make you feel genuinely welcome. Personally, I think this is the best poke bowl in Amsterdam, the rice is perfectly seasoned with just the right acidity from the vinegar, and the flavours are always beautifully balanced. My favourite is one of their specials with salmon and tempura, absolutely spot on.

What truly sets this place apart is the atmosphere. There’s a piano inside the restaurant, and during one visit, one of the staff, Mahmoud, I believe, started playing it wonderfully. Out of nowhere, an Italian gentleman walked in and began singing classical Italian songs. It turned into this incredible, spontaneous performance, and honestly, it was one of the most memorable lunch experiences I’ve ever had. Great food, lovely people, and an unbeatable vibe....
