Normally I don't write reviews but after today's visit to thuis aan de Amstel I felt obligated to share our experience. In short the management of this place dropped the ball....
After arriving we were allocated a table on the terrace and ordered drinks. When our drinks arrived they can with a reserved sign for the table that left us with just 10 minutes to finish our drinks and clear the table. At the time of the reservation the manager passed by to tell us that we had to leave the table. At that point we explained that we were seated there before the reservation appeared and that we were just served our drinks. The manager blamed his staff and walked away. 5 minutes later he sent one of his staff members to come over to tell us that we needed to clear the table... After once more explaining the situation the waiter looked for another table but could offer us no suitable alternative.. the manager made sure not to come over (chicken...). As you can understand we were upset and decided to leave... A bad end to a nice day out of the ☀️. We will definitely not go back to this...
Read moreVery nice location and atmosphere. Food is good and decently priced considering the average in the city. I was there with my two year old boy (a good eater) but didn't have kinder menu for lunch. The "adults" options were too elaborated for him, so I asked for an avocado toast and I was told that it was not available, so I thought they didn't have avocado. I checked the menu and one dish had boiled eggs, so I asked if it was possible to just get plain bread and boiled egg for him but they were unwilling to serve anything out of menu. They could have charged me 13 euro for a piece of bread with eggs, but in the end my kid had some plain bread. I know many places are not very welcoming towards kids in Amsterdam, and this is probably one of these places that are happy to lose a customer who might come with kids. It's not a critique, it's just an FYI for other parents. It's a pity as I was overall very happy with the quality...
Read moreWent with my fiancee on our new ebikes to her work at decor atelier nationale opera and her chef was present with his wife watering the plants outside this huge 1 hectare workshop. She was allowed to show me around the projects and afterwards they gave us a tip for this place, never heard of but hey, pourqois pas. We biked there quite near Amstel Station and it was a delight. Beautiful building the ceo of water company used to live back in the day and it was held in that day and age. I had a nice burger my fiancee a soup accompanied with some drinks. Prices were okay (I think my fiancee invited me) and our meals yummie. Staff could use some training as they were more busy dancing and flirting with eachother than attending empty glasses. When around do visit or as a stop on a nice biking trip. Thanks for the tip! Will...
