Brussels Lof — Restaurant in Groningen

This was my second visit to Brussels Lof, and unfortunately, it will be my last. I had made a reservation weeks in advance for a party of five at 6:30 PM. Excitedly, I spent the week hyping up a special dinner to my parents-in-law and my mother, who had never tasted lobster before. This was supposed to be the day!

Upon arriving at the restaurant, we ordered drinks, starters, and meals—three of which were lobsters, as my wife and I opted for the fish of the day. The drinks were served, and after some time, we were informed that only two lobsters were available, forcing us to change our orders. I was extremely disappointed, especially since this information could have been shared earlier. Instead, they served the drinks and waited until the last moment to break the bad news.

To make matters worse, when we ordered desserts, the waitress returned once again to inform us that they didn’t have enough for everyone. At that point, all I could do was laugh and ask for the check. The waitress tried to justify the situation by explaining that they work with fresh ingredients and sometimes run out of items. While I understand that, it would have been much more considerate if they had communicated this upfront.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a special dining experience, I would recommend going elsewhere. At Brussels Lof, they seem to have a habit of running out of key ingredients and informing you too late, which can really dampen what should be an...

I took my partner for a dinner date last night, atmosphere was good. The waitress explained fish of the day turbot and tongue fish. I go for mussels and my partner for turbot. 5-10 min later waitress came back told my partner the turbot was finished so he had to choose again, he chose risotto. After starters, our food came, i get my mussels but he get a turbot (which should be finished?), there was mistake, they took back turbot fish without any explanation and we had to wait about 15 min more while my main course standing on the table (which is not nice when you go as couple for dinner). After they came with risotto, when my partner asked what happened (because there was still no explanation) the waitress said sorry and told that we will be compensated. The risotto was rich with fishes but rice was not well cooked. After we asked the bill, we get the bill without any compensation or any other possible gestures , when my partner asked, they told him we mean we will compensate coffee (which we did not order) It was strange service with minimum explanation , it will be nicer if they took more responsibility of their mistake and...

We went for a birthday celebration. The food was very pretentious but didn't follow up with taste. I had a tiny (40g-ish?) potion of truffel pasta as a starter that didn't taste like much for around 20 euros and then a very small plate of beetroot risotto with weird sea greens through it that didn't match the risotto at all taste wise, for 25 or 30 euros, leaving me hungry and the wallet empty. At the same time, for the same amount you can get a huge potion of cheese fondue one can not finish. Confusing...

And the service was meh as well. My drink was forgotten several times and then I was told (upon asking again before the main course), its because its out of stock. As if I could have known that. So the impression was because of this and the general treatment that waiters don't really care.

So overall not terrible but also not convincing on the food or service front to make one...
