On June 5, 2025 we took our out-of-town guests to what used to be our favorite restaurant in Groningen, Weeva. I go mainly for the liver, perfectly cooked! The spareribs are good too. The lambcurry a bit overcooked. You can't taste the lamb. The fish is O.K. The sides are all good and copious. We appreciate the table clothes, cloth napkins, the space and the service used to be very professional. No more!
The last three times we have been there we have left feeling it was a wasted evening...and it is all due to the waiters. If you don't order fast enough or ask a question they growl and snap a surly reply. They yank your plate away as if they can't wait for you to leave. Always a welcome at the door by the elderly gentleman behind the bar, never with these waiters at the table, nor a smile. After giving our waiter a surprised look at his gruffness he "accidentally" hit me in the back of my head with his elbow!
Unfortunatly the problem is with the two older waiters, one who gruffness sound like he is from the Jordan in Amsterdam and the other has a slight posture handicap. The younger staff are always friendly and professional.
After frquenting Weeva regularly, we have sworn off the place for a year. We are fed up paying E45 per person and walking out with emotional indigestion. There are plenty of other choices in the great city of Groningen.
A pity really. Where am I going to find my fried liver...
Read moreI went some days ago for dinner with my friends to Weeva and we had an awful and xenophobic experience. We are non-native dutch speakers but are trying our best to understand and speak the language a bit. The waiter explained the menu in dutch and we didn't understand that the meal of the day was not available. When he came back two of us ordered that meal and he had an awful reaction. He told us off and said something like" if we could not speak dutch there was no point in us being in that restaurant". At that moment we didn't know what to do, so we just ordered something different. In the spur of the moment, I first said one thing and then changed, and he put an awful face, as if I had commited the worst crime, which I am sure he wouldn't have done to a dutch costumer. We were pollite and respectul at all times. People (not because we were costumers) should not be treated like this. This restaurant, and Groningen in general, should not tolerate this kind...
Read moreWe arrived late to Martini Hotel around 22:30 and hadn’t had dinner yet. Most nearby places were already closed, and we were so relieved to find the hotel restaurant still open until 23:00
We came in at 22:30 —very close to closing time—but the staff were still incredibly polite and welcoming. Even though they were probably ready to wrap up for the night, they served us without any rush or attitude.
The food was delicious, and the service was great. The place was nice decorated, it has historical charm in its decor.
We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in town—both to the hotel and...
