We booked this hotel six months ago to go to the Christmas concert that takes place every year in this town. We liked the look of it as it was less corporate as a hotel and with all prices being inflated for the concerts this seemed reasonable value at £120 a night. How wrong can you be!||When we arrived it looked like our local spit and sawdust druggy pub, not an upmarket boutique hostelry. After booking in at the till in the pub we were taken up two flights of stairs which were incredibly steep without a handrail of hall lighting. Not very good if you had to evacuate the floors quickly in the event of an incident, but that was not the best bit, no, that came in our room! Two beds, no headboards, dirty sheets and pillows and best of all a convector heater as heating, bearing in mind it was -3 already at 3.30pm! and no heating at all in the bathroom. ||On complaining we were offered another convector heater, oh the luxury of two electric heaters! By now we had decided not to stay here as it was positively cold and unsafe.||We then handed back the key to be told we still would pay as we had passed the cancellation date on the booking. so it cost us 90 euros not to stay there! ||Please be aware of this place ripping people off because of the Christmas concerts near by. If it had been next to a station and £35 a night it probably would be reasonable value but charging over £100 is...
Read moreI visited this hotel with 3 sons (22, 19 and 13) and we really liked this hotel. The location is brilliant, just off the Markt with its restaurants and terraces, just off the river Maas, close to the station. The rooms are good and clean, the beds incredibly comfortable. I absolutely loved the interior. The (shisha)bar which doubles as reception/breakfast room is oriental/ bohemian the rooms a lovely mixture of modern and oriental. When I was told that the shisha bar is also where you have breakfast I was a bit worried as the scent of shisha was quite heavy but when we arrived for breakfast the air was fresh and it was fine. To me it is the staff that can make or break an otherwise nice hotel. Good service can often be small things. Are they pro-active, helpful, do they make you feel welcome. The staff of Hotel Matuchi did not disappoint, quite the contrary. So if you want a hotel that is a bit different in a great location in the centre of Maastricht want a good night sleep, a shower with lots of pressure or even a bath, free wifi for a very good price this is your hotel. Note: you cannot park near the hotel, we parked at the Station which is a very safe car park, from there it is a lovely short walk over the bridge crossing the river...
Read moreThe room we stayed at in this hotel is very basic, but clean and comfortable enough. As you approach the hotell, you have a choice og two doors (both decorated with Indian/ Middle Eastern decor/painting) The door to the left takes you to the bar and the door to your right, takes you straight up a narrow staircase, leading to the rooms. After having looked for a lobby, we tried the left door, and found that the bar also servs as the lobby/check-inn. We we greated courtiously, and with key in hand began the climb to the top floor. A good work out, with luggage in hand! There is also a pervecive smell of hookah and sweet tea in the hall way, presumably coming from the bar next door. It was in no way unpleasent, just different.||||We found you room to be perfectly adequate, however the sparce furnishing made it a room only for sleeping, and not inviting for "hanging out" while taking a break. The bathroom was again, perfectly adequate. The nicest part about the room was the bill when checking out.||||Given the location, this hotel is a good deal. However, there are loads of hotells in the area, and provided they aren´t significantly more expensive, they could be worth your while looking in to. Barring that, this is a adequate...
