Chocolate Company Café — Restaurant in Rotterdam

I mostly use cafes for a change of pace when working on writing on my laptop. I loved the vibe and space of this cafe when I was visiting Rotterdam for 2 weeks in summer: perfect ambient temperature manageable ambient music level very comfortable and ergonomic furniture (no wobbly tables or uncomfy back-less chairs) plenty of power supplies and stable wifi open till 7pm, so you can get a good day's work in even if you visit after lunch not too crowded (on the days I visited, a summer weekend afternoon) These are enough qualities to earn 5 stars from me. But you might be interested about the drinks too! As far as drinks go, I have had better, but they are high enough quality that I wouldn't dock points for them: I got 2 frozen drinks on 2 days here since it was quite hot: I really enjoyed the mocha praline coldchoc, the hazelnut one was so-so. My wife got a chicken sandwich and while it was on the small side, the taste was excellent.

This is a nice cafe, with usually pleasant staff. Today however I was served by an older gentleman with glasses who was quite inflexible. I ordered my drink take-away, and sandwich to eat in as I wanted to enjoy the cafe experience, but don't want to rush through my coffee. This seemed to be a surprising order he has never taken before. So I request everything to go, if it was simpler. After receiving my order, I sat down to eat a little bit of my sandwich before heading off. The guy apparently offended ask me to leave, complaining about paper waste. Having paid for these items, shouldn't I have the right to also enjoy at least some of my meal in the cafe as well? I understand your strong conviction and I wasn't going to finish everything at the cafe. This was really disappointing. I do hope this particular staff receives more training, he can do better. A perfect stop in the heart of Rotterdam!

The coffee ☕️ and chocolate 🍫 here are top quality — and every coffee comes with a delicious truffle included. You can sit inside or outside 😎 (yes, I know that in NL it sounds like a joke) at one of the street tables, where it’s also possible to enjoy a cigarette 🚬. The staff is friendly, speaks multiple languages, and creates a welcoming, LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere. It’s a great place to take a break, study 📖📚 (thanks to good Wi-Fi, power outlets, and music 🎶 that doesn’t overpower), or just relax. There’s even space nearby to leave your bike. 🐶 dogs are welcome too — they’ll gladly bring a bowl of water for your pup.
