I thought of dining in this place after reading all the food reviews. First of all this place is located in the pub street where this restaurant is one among the many. They have a very different way of ordering the food and taking a seat. You are first supposed to order the food and after that you need to find a table to sit, well this would work normally when the restaurant is not packed with people, but I don't how otherwise it could work. In my case I luckily found a place after ordering. This was my first time to try some Surinamese cuisine. I ordering Nasi Rames. It came in with a chicken skewer, rice, noodles, beef, vegetables and sausage. The portion size was really a lot. 17 euros for what I had ordered. Honsestly I didn't like the food that much, no because it was bad, but only because I don't like my main meals to be sweet. And lot of it was quite sweet. I am more of a person who likes savoury and spicy items in my main dishes. But I guess that's how the Surinamese cuisine is. I am sure many others might like the food, but sadly it's not my cup of tea. overall if you haven't tried the cuisine you should...
Read moreThe 3 orders turned out to be nice (fresh and well seasoned/cooked) but we begun wondering why this place is suddenly packed and everyone ordered 'Soto Soep' ( in Indonesian you call simply call it Soto or Soto Ayam/Chicken) which mainly composed of broth, meat and vegetables but you only find the version with chicken breast stripes and eggs here. I actually thought I could savour the Soto later but I underestimated the power of my Veggie Plate. :D To have some Soto take-ways (like mostly people did that day) were difficult that day as we needed to walk back to the car before continue driving to Den Haag (The Hague). Price? Cant tell you each dish accurately, but with 3 drinks (3 pax) we paid less than 35 Eur which is considered to be quite moderate in the Netherlands.
If someone is asking what does Warung stand for It means simply a small traditional shop usually run by the family member. It could also be a small cafe or restaurant. Why then put the word mini afterwards? Hm either to stress out how small the shop/place is or its the owner name or...
Read moreThe Warung Mini is a nice little Fusion Restaurant in Rotterdam’s City Center, where you can either have Surinamese, Javanese, or Indian food. So I guess many of us will find something here, since this place serves food from way different world regions. The Warung Mini features also a nice patio in the crowded Witte de Withstraat street, Rotterdam’s bustling pub and restaurant street. But there are also plenty of tables inside the restaurant.
So if you are open for something new and you therefore want to explore for instance the Surinamese food scene, this place is quite a save bet to do so. The food is delicious and something different from what I am normally used to in terms of spices and ingredients for instance. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable in this place, in which you can explore the exotic world of three countries from different world regions at one place.
