Came to this restaurant with high hopes after waiting almost a week for a reservation, however left disappointed and completely underwhelmed. Considering the price of the menu and the fact that this establishment always seems to be full, you would expect a certain quality that was lacking throughout the entirety of our meal, leaving us with the feeling that this place is indeed more of an industry than a restaurant. From the moment we sat down, we felt rushed to order. This was not helped by the fact that the 15 course meal arrived almost instantly, as if it had been prepared before the order itself. This seems to be the case with chain restaurants such as this one. Upon the arrival of the meal, the waiter was not able to explain all of the 15 “courses” (more like 15 small snacks to be perfectly honest. Some photos by other people looked as if the menu dishes were larger, however this was barely filling for 2 individuals). À la carte portions were slightly larger, yet also significantly smaller than what you would expect for the price. The food was decent, yet nothing extraordinary, and there were some hit or miss dishes. On the positive side, the restaurant was very well decorated, with an open kitchen and bar on the top floor. Overall, this place did not live up to it’s expectations and gives the impression of a fast food chain disguised behind a posh establishment. There are much better options for for Indonesian food in The Hague, and I would avoid falling pray to this tourist trap.

An expensive street food “restaurant” We waited 10 minutes at the door to be welcomed. Then 5 minutes to find us a table when the “restaurant” wasn’t crowded We were escorted to the last floor the only one which was full 1.- One of the chairs was dirty so we kindly asked to be clean it up. They did it however it was left wet. We used one of the napkins to dry it up and asked for another one. They never delivered it 2.- Ten minutes later they passed by to ask for the drinks 3.- After finishing the drinks and 40 minutes later we hadn’t had the menus. When they came after asking for them a few times, we ordered 3 dishes to share 4.- More than an hour after getting into the restaurant we had our food. What was our surprise? The three dishes came together, at the same time. Lamb wasn’t warm, the Angus tartar was mixed with some fish and tasted a little bit weird. Vegetables warmer than the lamb 5.- We barely eat something and asked for the bill. They didn’t even ask why there still was food on the plates. 6.- We had to wait another ten minutes for the bill and when leaving I told my husband to go to Burger King to have something decent to eat and one of the waiter looked at me and say nothing 7.- Very noisy, few staff, poor service, bad food quality 8.- Disappointing

We did not have the opportunity to come in the old version of Garouda. We came in the renewed Gastrobar. I like the idea and we ordered a rice table (big) for 3. Food was enough in quantity and options. Few dishes I would have avoided but I think it was a good selection. We all liked the satays, prawns, and fish. Meat, Gado Gado, rice, and fried banana regular. Do not get me wrong; It was fine for the first time and we will go back, but there are a few details that need to improve. For example the temperature of the dishes! I absolutely understand that the kitchen is downstairs and the service has to be well coordinated to get everything right....but it is not the guest's problem if you have decided to build your restaurant in this way. By the way, the service was good.

It must be very difficult in the crowded Western part of the Netherlands to find competent hospitality staff; it seems good staff is s true rarity and Garuda is no exception. The staff even told us "Good bye and see you again" while we had not yet paid!! I decided to tell the staff member I still had to pay, but I wonder how much money the place loses this way.

The restaurant is understaffed, so I won't blame the waitresses. There were only two serving an entire floor. Well, that just does not work.

In the kitchen it is even worse. The kitchen of Garuda is open and offers a full view on the chefs. The cook with the beard tied together in a "tail" should be fired today. His understanding of kitchen hygiene, or better his complete lack of it, is simply astonishing. He spoons soup (or sauce?) and eats it, using the same spoon again multiple times dipping it into the food... The food that I got served. I hope for the guests of Garuda this cook is healthy.

We had the 15-dishes rice table which was all right except for the fish dish that was really not tasty and rather soggy and not fresh. Frozen fish? The other dishes were OK. Do not expect extraordinary Indonesian food at Garuda but just OK flavors, and do not look into the kitchen as it will spoil your appetite. The check was 100 euro for two, no drinks just water. Certainly not affordable. If only the staff was better it would have been worth...
