As of recently there is a new management and the menu has also changed completely
I feel very disappointed with the change of menu and concept because prior we would always get greeted by all staff with いらっしゃいませ" (irasshaimase) and now it does not happen anymore. Additionally, the menu has become very fusion. There's now dimsum and stirfrys which you would typically find at Chinese restaurant. You cannot call it Authentic Japanese anymore as it does not even put the effort of being a mimic. Certain classics such as nigiri, bluefin tuna, a5 wagyu, bentos, okonomiyaki, duck teriyaki, miso have all disappeared from the menu as well
Service has been very slow as well, i see that the new(?) employees are doing their best but it was just very chaotic overall
The food was something. After we ordered, the ramen literally came within 3 minutes of ordering, which was very suspicious. There were egg shells in my fried rice. There was also selery in my JAPANESE fried rice????? And all dishes were quite cold. I ordered the teppan beef, which prior would be served on a hot iron sizzling plate and on the menu it said it would be served as such as well. It came on a normal plate, the beef was not tender, the mushrooms on the side were so cold and i didnt dare to eat the tomatoes.
We we're given the reasoning that there are new chefs who did not know how to use a wok?
I have been coming here ever since it was open but unfortunately i will not be eating here anymore due to the decrease in food quality, menu options and...
Read moreSet used to be my absolute favorite restaurant in all of Den Haag, but it will never be the same again.
First of all, if you arrive without a reservation, they make you leave—only to let you back in if you call and book while standing right outside, which is just ridiculous.
The atmosphere that once made Set special is gone: no more Japanese music that used to set the mood, and instead, you’re greeted by a giant digital display showing the menu, which completely ruins the charm.
One star is already too generous for what Set has become. Since the new management replaced the authentic Japanese cuisine, the restaurant has turned into a parody of its former self.
The menu has been completely overhauled: the once-perfect bento box is now a sad assortment of mediocre meat and two salads instead of fried chicken (check the picture).
The sushi has become a poor imitation, and the traditional miso soup has vanished. After waiting for over an hour without receiving any food, we left disappointed and hungry.
A place that once was the best in what it did, is now just a sad memory.
That said, the staff is doing their best despite all these changes, and their effort is appreciated.
It must be really hard on them with all these changes after SET formula worked for the past 15+ years.
My advice: change the restaurant's name and stop pretending it's authentic Japanese, because there's nothing...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of enjoying lunch for 4 people at Set Japanese Cuisine, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The meal started with a delightful daily appetizer we received free of charge. Among the highlights were the perfectly crisp fried salmon skin and the tender fried tofu with mushroom, both of which were bursting with flavor and freshness.
For the mains, we indulged in a variety of dishes that was perfect for cold weather. The Pork Miso Ramen was rich and hearty, while the Set Specialty Ramen offered a unique twist with its flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The Chicken Katsu was perfectly fried, with a crisp coating and juicy chicken inside.
The Spicy Volcano ramen was also an enjoyable meal despite it being spicy. The flavor of the broth is strong enough to not be overwhelmed by the spiciness overall, making it an explosions of flavour in the mouth with a kick.
To complement our meal, we shared some amazing Osaka-style sushi and incredibly fresh salmon sashimi, which were both prepared with attention to detail. Each bite was a testament to the quality and authenticity of the ingredients.
Overall, Set Japanese Cuisine provided a memorable lunch experience for our group. From the enjoyable ambience to the impeccable dishes, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Japanese cuisine. Highly...
