  • This is a warning review for people that previously loved the Astro Lounge and will be removed if things change * We were excited to hear that the Astro Lounge was reopening so a group of us headed on down for what we hoped was going to be a fantastic lunch. The wait staff and bar staff were great as usual and the same menus were on the tables so we were thrilled. When we asked for 2x steamed mussels and 2x Hen Solo (southern fried chicken with jalapeno honey sauce) we were informed that they only had ONE serving of the chicken available (this is one hour past the opening time of 12, on their re-opening day) so we ordered the available portion and the Cluck Rogers burger that is supposed to contain the same fried chicken as the Hen Solo. We also ordered the Celestial Chips which are supposed to be hand cut fries. When the meals arrived one of them was 5 chicken nibbles with a sweet chilli sauce for $18 and the burger had what appeared to be some grilled chicken breast instead of fried chicken. The mussels were served up with a milky sauce that tasted of nothing nice and were rubbery and did not taste fresh. The fries were absolutely not hand cut and were very dry, under seasoned and chewy. None of these meals resembled any previous we had enjoyed here and that was very disappointing. We did speak with the manager and expressed our disappointment and they graciously did not charge us for the mussels. The menu has apparently changed and we were assured if we come back we will not be disappointed. We will give them some time and then go back and try again, and if we are indeed not disappointed I will happily remove this review and upload a much more...

Firstly I would like to comment with lack of communication on their site and also the Facebook page had not been updated since March. I repeatedly made numerous calls to the number listed on Google restaurant and was always the same answer this phone is not valid or connected. My partner and I decided we would see if it was still operational and yes it was. Under new management and the whole place was run down and shoddy. No tables available outside and sharing with smokers We were shown inside and what a disappointment. The decor was horrible outdated and rough. No atmosphere at all The menu was limited to mostly different hamburgers and the starters were limited as well We were not offered cold water with our dinner and when our food arrived I was very disappointed with my meal and presentation was appalling.

I would not recommend this restaurant to my friends and my partner and I will definitely will not...

Such a nice oasis on a windy Canterbury day. Greg is an absolute asset to your establishment. Not long after we sat down he had a soft mat and toys for our wee one to play with, we didn’t even have to ask and love how they are items he has sourced himself. We each tried a burger and agreed they were delicious, but it was the hand cut fries that stole the show. Perfectly crispy and seasoned well! Thanks team, we will definitely be back for more lunches before...

One of the friendliest places in Christchurch, with the best service. Great music and delicious food, plus heaps of great craft beer both on tap and bottled. . The hot water bottles were a welcome bonus on a cold grey day! Definitely recommend.
