We are extremely disappointed with our dining experience. The owner served us "flying fish egg" instead of the "salmon egg" that was named on their menu. Additionally, the presentation of the food was quite poor and unappealing.

Thank you for the owner's response, where they mentioned we were dining under the "First Table" discount, which indeed gave us 50% off in exchange for a booking fee – fantastic. However, I interpreted that as implying, "you paid 50%, so you get 50%." To clarify, it was the restaurant's decision to offer the "First Table" promotion. It's important to note that this is a "First Table" promotion, not a "half price, half-quality" promotion. Substituting the ingredients listed on the menu with cheaper alternatives isn't justifiable simply because the restaurant chose to run the promotion. Very well I am downgrading the service rating and will also contact First Table for your...

Had a great lunch here today. One of the better sushi / sashimi (and dumplings!) places - not just in Christchurch but in general. Owner was lovely and very helpful. Dumplings (pork) were tasty and the dipping sauce complimented then well. Miso soup was great; strong umami flavours but without being too salty - perfectly well balanced. Sushi and sashimi were also good. I particularly like that they have a slightly more modern take on the sushi ie. Not just the classics but rather variations on these which make the menu stand out compared to more typical and run of the mill sushi places. It is also refreshing to see that the owner is trying to run his business sustainably and ethically (biodegradeble boxes, free range chicken etc).

Definitely will be back next time I'm in...

I recently gave this sushi and dumpling restaurant a try. The sushi deserves a mention as it's fresh enough. Can't say it blew my mind, but it won't disappoint either. As for the dumplings, I didn't get around to trying them, so I can't really comment on that. The service, on the other hand, was pretty good. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure I had what I needed. One thing to note is that the place seems pretty quiet during lunchtime, which can be a plus if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. The sushi's fresh, the service is good, and the lunchtime ambiance is calm. It's worth a visit if you're in the mood for some sushi or if you're looking for a...

We ate at Zen yesterday and I had to go again today. Amazing quality, super friendly staff and also enjoyed a chat with the owner. Thank you for the eel =) My favorite is the salmon nigiri....it melts in your mouth - also tried the other nigiris such as tuna, tuna tataki, beef tataki, eel, tamago and the crispy tempura prawn - each of them tasted GREAT. If you like sushi we highly recommend to stop at Zen! Going early is probably best because they are really popular.
