Came in about 2 weeks ago with a group because reviews were really good, only to discover those reviews were for the old owners, not the new ones. Started going wrong when they said they couldn't do cocktails cause the person who made them was sick (we were fine with this, it happens). But then out second and third choices were also out of stock. Came to order the meals, and same problem, said they couldn't make two of them after we had already ordered, them so had to go with second choices. I also called before booking to make sure they had gluten free options. Was told most of the menu except for a few dishes could be done gf, but on the night there were actually only 3 options. Food came, and the brisket was inedible. Half of it was like an overcooked steak and the other was too tough to even cut through. The staff however were super lovely the whole time and the atmosphere was good. After talking to them, they explained it was under new ownership or management, and gave us free dessert because of the issues....

We were truly very disappointed. This was our first time visiting Christchurch from Auckland, and we came to this restaurant based on the enthusiastic recommendation of some friendly locals. It was indeed a very busy day, we had made a reservation in advance and walked a long way to get there.

Despite how busy it was, there were only two staff members working. No one greeted us or acknowledged us when we arrived. We had to actively ask to place our order, and even then we had to remind the staff several times. We waited half an hour for our drinks, and only one alcoholic beverage was served.

The staff kept coming back to confirm our order multiple times, but even after waiting for over an hour, no food was served. Finally, after asking for the third time, we were told that the kitchen hadn’t even started preparing our meals.

We were very hungry and extremely disappointed. Since we never received any food, we won’t comment on its quality. But overall, this was a very...

Got aps and mains app where the squid and the mussels the squid was the same as I can get frozen from the supermarket (pacific west salt and pepper squid) had it the night before and it was identical and $15 for 6 pieces the mussels where bland and not de bearded so had to pull that out our selfs, mains seafood chowder was watery and bland had better from the supermarket (good taste brand) the salmon was in seasoned bland and nothing special at all. We got our apps and mains at the same time witch left our mains slightly cold by the time we got to them, drinks I got mine really fast but my partners we had to ask 3 different waiters 2 said it’s being worked on and the third auctly went and got it for us by the time we got it we where half way through our mains she also found a hair in it. Not...

Was so happy to finally take my girlfriend on a nice dinner date and we were really happy with the food, really nice spot, we used first table for a good discount, personally my favourite thing was the starter which was the fried chicken, super juicy and crunchy and a lovely sauce with it, the burger I had was great, added an egg, defo not necessary but celebrations call for it😅, and of if I was to get it again I’d have without mustard and ketchup. It got quite messy but it’s a big burger, chips were soooo fluffy and crispy, I’d take a bag of the stuff. And the lady had the chicken pasta which she found to be really nice and filling. Overall lovely place.

Under new management, this place has become a top choice for food quality, beer, wines, and both indoor and outdoor ambiance. It's a great spot for parties with a private and pleasant atmosphere. The Southern fried chicken and beer-battered fries are of excellent quality and reasonably priced. The hospitality is outstanding, and the owner is always present, making guests feel at home. It's suitable for both families and bachelors, with plenty of space to accommodate everyone. Parking is hassle-free with ample off-street options. Once you visit, you'll want to return. Both first-timers and regulars receive special discounts. A must-visit spot!

My partner and I booked a First Table at the Guardian last Saturday night. A cosy, comfortable restaurant and bar with a great atmosphere. The food was great, I had the penne and my partner wanted the lamb burger which sadly wasn't available, so had the beef burger which he enjoyed. The highlight however was the cocktails (see photo), they looked and tasted amazing! The only problem we had was that we were charged full price for our meals instead of the First Table half price, and didn't notice till we got home. We emailed the next day and didn't hear back.
