The ambiance created a sense of tranquility, making it the perfect place for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience.
The customer service at Shanghai Chinese Restaurant was simply outstanding. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and well-versed in the menu. They guided me through the extensive selection of dishes and provided excellent recommendations based on my preferences. The chefs at Shanghai Chinese Restaurant have clearly mastered the art of traditional Shanghai cuisine. While every dish I tried was exceptional, two standout dishes deserve special mention. The Beijing roast duck was cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin and succulent meat that melted in my mouth. It was served with delicate pancakes and a selection of condiments, allowing me to create my own delightful duck wraps. The combination of textures and flavors was simply divine.
Another dish that left a lasting impression on me was the Buddha jumping wall soup. This rich and aromatic soup is a true delicacy, made with a combination of premium ingredients such as abalone, sea cucumber, fish maw, and other seafood delicacies. The flavors were complex yet harmonious, and the broth was velvety and comforting. It was a true indulgence for my taste buds.

Read moreThe restaurant venue itself is great, the drinking glasses and are high quality, and service are OK, but the waiter didn't really took attention what I ordered, so came with a wrong order, aa we order eggplant, but came as beef, but we thought that was fine, we could eat that too, so I said we kept it, but when we ate, beef tasted funny, it didn't has beef texture, it was bouncy when I chewed, then I told the waitress, we couldn't eat the beef dish, it taste it has been putting somekind of agent to make the meat more tender and bouncy because the beef taste funny and different, and I asked for the eggplant, the waitress said the beef dish wouldn't be charged, so the was good. But the eggplant dish we were disappointed either, because we didn't see eggplant all we see and taste was very thick batter deepfry coating, and mince meat gravy, it taste oily and hard to swallow, the only dish we could eat was boiled dumplings and plain rice, it was a oK dish, wasn't a very good made dumlping but better than the other two
And after, I spoke to my brother who is a Chinese chef who lives in Australia, and I told him the beef dish, he said that it sounds like it has borax. And it happens in a some Chinese restaurant cooking, the prawns are very crispy that may contains borax, borax can make meat doesn't loose it's valum and make it more crispy, but lost it's own taste, but they just add some more seasoning in then makes the food tasty again.
So that was a bad experience fir my meal that night,
I'm an older Chinese I know what is a good Chinese food taste, so that is why I normally prefer go to European or kiwi eatery rather than a...
Read more📍Location - Chinese restaurant located in SkyCity, Hamilton. It is easy to find the restaurant once you entered the building.
🅿️Parking - there were some street parking but not availability at the time we came. Ended up parking in SkiCity which was $3.5 per half an hour. We have spent certain amount in this restaurant and the parking fee can be waived.
🍚Food - Wide variety of options from the menu, not the typical Shanghai food that we were expecting but also include other Chinese food. They provide Yum Cha menu during lunch hours, but some are available at dinner times.
For dim sims, we ordered steamed soup buns (xiao long bao), prawn dumplings, chicken feet and beef tripe. The taste and texture of the dim sim was quite average. The steam soup buns were too dry, the prawn dumplings coat was too thick, the beef tripe was rubbery and the chicken feet had a weird spoiled smell.
For mains, we ordered grilled lamb ribs. Very fancy plating, the lamb was tender but it was not juicy and not enough seasoning/flavour.
For greens, there was not many options from the menu. We ordered steamed cabbage and thin rice noodles topped with garlic which surprisingly was the main highlight of the meal. The soup of the dish was tasty.
👩🏼💼Service - All of the staff were friendly. The food did take awhile to serve.
🪑Seating/Ambience - Very comfortable and spacious seating with Chinese style interior...
