I live locally and I’ve always avoided this bakery for different reasons. Probably the one that put me off always was the flies where the pastries were.
In November i walked in and the lady behind the counter did not take her eyes from her phone to acknowledge my presence. I realised at that second look that she had gloves on while scrolling her phone. She didn’t even try to hide under the counter. She finally noticed i was starring at her and put the phone down. While i was browsing through the breads i saw her eating from a sandwich with the same gloves. I thought i was being pranked at laughing camera. When i asked for a bread, she quickly reached it without changing her gloves. At that point i said to her i am not comfortable with her grabbing a bread with same gloves i just saw she was handling the phone earlier. She rolled her eyes and reached for a plastic bag then put the bread back and grabbed a new one with the plastic bag. I tried to talk to her and asked what is the point of wearing the gloves. She ignored me and I calmly said to her, it is a genuine question, i don’t understand. That phone is one of the most dirty and contaminated objects we use daily. She couldn’t care less and wanted to move on with her life so she dismissed me with “So you want the bread or not?No? Okay, bye.”
Her attitude was appalling all the way to the end.
The integrity of that bakery is compromised in my eyes. If that lady behaved like that with a customer in the shop, what is she doing when alone? Sneezing all over the breads? … We just came out of a 3 year pandemic and people still don’t know to clean their hands before eating or handling food for others.
I emailed the bakery in November about this incident but they don’t seem...

Sounds like something I've heard on the radio recently, might give the commerce commission a call, looking forward to discussing it...
