This is NOT your normal everyday coffee shop in New Zealand. It's not exactly your edgy coffee roaster style coffee shop from Portland or San Francisco either, but if you're looking for either (typical Kiwi barista espresso or American style single origin light roasted Fair-trade organic birdseed milk latte), this place will scratch your itch.
I can't do the harsh bitter overtones of the Kiwi espresso barista palette and I usually settle for the flat-white-with-sugar-and-hold-my-nose approach, especially when away from Christchurch, Wellington, or Auckland. But our hero sources his coffees from the best roasters in the country (I saw Grey Roasting Co. from Hamilton when I was in), and after some chatting, the chap has a discerning taste. I would trust any coffee he batch brews (filter).
I try to avoid espresso drinks where possible, but I'm sure a man of his refinement can pull shot better than James Hoffman. 5 stars. I'd give this place 6 if Google...

Little did I know. as I inhaled the aroma and took my first sip, I immediately sank to my knees and wept tears of pure joy, and by pure joy, I mean pure rainbows and glitter. I made myself a small cup to sample its unique flavors and instantly, I felt a change. My max bench press increased by 100KG and my resting heart rate sped up to a non-human rate. I flung myself from the bathroom window and the coffee literally turned me into a F22 Raptor, I flew over Ukraine and ended the Russian invasion, then I flew back home where I turned into an Alfa Romeo Disco-Volante and drove off into the sunset. Great taste, 10/10...
Read moreThe best coffee in town without any doubt. If youâre a coffee lover, this is THE place to go. Try one of Mikeâs speciality coffee if you want to discover new flavours. I definitely recommend the cold brew during hot days in summer. He can guide you to try something you would love for sure depending on your taste.
Mike is passionate and ready to share all of his knowledges. 5 stars for his art latte too (ask him for a little cute penguin đ). Finally a place where you can seat down and talk with the community he created around him for a year. Good vibes only, fancy wall you could spend hours to watch, delicious food (lil bun and cookie lover â€ïž), funny talks where everyone is sharing their live experiences.
If youâre a traveler as I am and you canât live without a hot coffee, even at the summit of a mountain, you should buy one of his little cup to keep you warm. It never...
