It took 7 minutes to queue behind 3 customers trying to use the tablet to order. Many items on the menu not available, they had to wait to get staff attention for them to complete the order. I ordered wonton soup and could not add a drink. I bought that elsewhere. I waited 23 minutes to get my order. Three customers who ordered up to 10 minutes after me were served before me. Two customers who ordered before me were still waiting. The soup was served in a takeaway bowl with no lid. I asked for a lid, the staff member was confused and could not find a lid. But they did give me a paper spoon that disintegrated in the hot soup. The soup was very hot and they had no serviettes to protect my finger from carrying the soup and no bags available. Their website shows wonton soup contains 10 wontons. When I got back to my office with burnt fingers I discovered not 10 wontons but five dumplings. They did not tell me that the substituted the main ingredient for something else. The dumplings were full of gristle, not pleasant. The soup was very sweet and very much tasting of seafood. This is not what I expected. It had seaweed in it and one small piece of over cooked bok choy. The worst wonton soup I have ever tasted and I like seafood. Worst food I have purchased in Wellington by far. While waiting I was watching people dining-in that were leaving their food unfinished.
Went back today 27/08/25 nothing has changed. I ordered the wonton soup and a pork kimchi steamed bun. Then they substituted with no communication. 10 wontons in the soup was 5 with 2 fish balls and 1 tofu (not on the menu), sweet soup flavour (yuk) was ruined by burnt scallions and where does the oil come from? The pork kimchi bun was missing the kimchi.
I regret giving them a second chance. Absolutely no...
Read moreTheir stove top was broken or something similar (not entirely sure what the problem was) but they kept serving customers, ending up with a crowd of people waiting 30-45 minutes each.... And more joining each minute. From the looks of it they ended up using another stalls facilities and ferried buckets of dumplings to and fro which is one way to solve the issue lol but still long wait times. Also saw some dumplings get dropped and put back into said container which. Mm maybe not.
I've worked in hospo so believe me when I say I understand shit shows like this happen and they're incredibly stressful but you've got to handle them better than they handled it yesterday. Communication with your customers is key!
They needed to either temporarily close while they sorted the issues OR let ordering customers know what was going on, but they didn't do either. One male staff member was also shouting at the others which was super awkward to witness.
Anyway, got food eventually. Dumplings were mediocre but the price is really affordable, especially in a place like Willis lane where you expect to be bleeded dry. Also we love a vegan option cleared advertised on their menu so that's...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Food Du Dumplings on Willis Lane, and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was vibrant and lively, perfect for unwinding after a long trip.
I had just arrived in the city off the Interislander ferry, and the pan-fried dumplings really hit the spot. My personal favourite is Pork & Pawn. They were deliciously crispy on the outside and wonderfully flavorful on the inside.
The walk from my hotel was definitely worthwhile. The stroll through the city added to the overall charm of the evening.
However, it's worth noting that the area can get quite noisy, especially at night, due to the music from the nearby bar.
Despite the noise, the great food and friendly service made it a memorable visit. If you're in the area, I highly recommend giving Food Du...
