Me & You — Restaurant in North Island

I had a secret date. With me. Just me. But ironically I took just me to Me & You. I haven’t fired the Favourite Husband, he was at work and I had time to kill. I haven’t been here for a long time. They changed the entrance/outside area and made it accessible for all, so kudos for that. There aren’t many tables outside so I pretty much had inside to myself. It’s a nice space, airy and homely at the same time. I ordered the creamy mushrooms with bacon and no bread. This is to pretend that I’m figure conscious but really it’s just so I can then have my carbs in liquid form later in the day. Anyway, back to the food. Presentation - beautiful and the serving size generous. The order is correct, which is generally a rarity. Beautiful mushrooms, good texture, super creamy and a lovely flavour. Crispy bacon was salty and cooked just how I like it. And bonus points; piping hot. Minimal wait time and generally fab. Plentiful menu to choose from and the cabinet food also looked excellent. One thing going for this cafe is that it was one of the only ones we could find open on a public holiday. The concept of the cafe is pretty cool and the interior design of the place would hit the mark if there weren't birds flying around the cafe continuously, the cafe is covered in bird poop with the general feeling of stickiness as well as duck tape covering holes in the couches, over all the seating need a refresh. The food was pretty good, though a bagel should be served on a plate rather than a bowl so that the juices don't soak into the bread. We were a table of 4 and one person was waiting for their meal for quite a while, making it awkward for everyone else who had almost already finished their meals. Went there with 3 others for a late lunch. Took over half an hour for the table to be cleared before we could order, and had to get the waitress back to wipe the table down .. It was covered in red sticky stuff. Food was ok, but took ages before it was served. Two of us ordered smoothies, they never arrived, we had to go up to the counter to enquire where they were, then had to wait another 15 minutes for them to arrive. They "forgot" a slice that had been ordered which was disappointing. The place wasn't busy so they couldn't use that as an excuse.
