Handsome Frog Gourmet Foods — Restaurant in North Island

We visited friends in Kerikeri this 2019 Easter and on our way back to Auckland called into the Handsome Frog for a coffee. We noticed the pies in the warmer and they looked just so good so decided to take 4 home. Well we had them for dinner with mashed potatoes, peas and gravy. We have got some pretty good pie places in Auckland, but these pies are something else. We got 3 brisket beef and one Mexican beef. Without a doubt the four of us had never had a pie like this ever. The meat was so tender and there was so much of it. If you live in Whangarei, you would be so lucky to have this place on your doorstep. Stopped by for a breakfast treat and am so impressed.

Had a Vienna coffee made to perfection, paired with an almond croissant. I have been looking for a real almond croissant in Whangarei for years and have found THE SPOT. This is a combo made to perfection.

Also tried the fresh cream donut. Chewy, light and a great amount of jam!

Stole a bite of a brisket pie... the smokey taste in that pie was perfection. Had half a chicken and Brie pie... so creamy and packed with filling! I would have loved it more with a good helping of cracked pepper but it is really delicious as is.

Service was wonderful. Friendly, fun and really appreciated the attention to our preferences.

I was so sad when the handsome frog disappeared years ago. NO LONGER....it's back. So so pleased. On a mindless wander on Vine St (I don't come into town very much) I discovered Handsome Frog. WOW!. It was heaven, the food (got some treats for my wifes birthday) and the great atmosphere. Sat down with a great cofee, and a brisket pie. Now my car is legal, I will have to regulate my visits to my pension LOL. Can't wait to get some boutique bread. So so so happy the Frog is back. Graham. :-) PS.
