Went for their Easter High Tea, first thing my 12 yr old said when she saw the things on the tiered platters were “These are store bought...”. It is bottomless tea and coffee on offering but it doesn’t make up for the dry hard “hot” cross buns or the sticky damp matcha macaroons or the cold butter chicken mini pie, etc etc. Below par, and view is not worth paying for either. Grant Thornton building smack bang in the middle and what you can see is just few centimeters of the sea line, quite pathetic place really for a supposedly high class hotel. Renovation badly needed, old dated building that smells, toilets look like a set from the 1980’s, if I was the owner of the place, I’d be very embarrassed. I think the locals would’ve known...felt like a tourist trap...

I enjoyed my time at Whibys, was welcomed by the staff and was served by a lovely waitress who’s name I believe was Kelly. She served me the majority of the night and was constantly checking on not only me but the surrounding customers. She is also an amazing barista I ordered a mocha that was one of if not the best I’ve had in a while. The food was really good for it being a buffet some of the meat was dry but still had great flavour, lots of variety of foods to choose from. There is also a blind man who plays piano and he is very good but it does really make it feel as if the place is a little to fancy and wouldn’t mind just listing to some random music because when he stops it’s dead silent I would recommend...

My partner and I dined at Whitbys on a Tuesday evening. Having never been before. The atmosphere was nice, with a lovely view of the city from the 17th floor of the Grand Chancellor hotel. The service was very good, with very regular check-ins on the dining experience and quality of our meals. My partner had the Risotto and said this of it "It was the best Risotto I have ever had" I had the Salmon and this was fine, perhaps one small comment would be that the portion size definitely left room for desert. Which we had. My partner a lovely selection of cheeses and I had the Banana Cream Parfait. Both of which were lovely. Would definitely recommend to friends and family alike for a lovely...

When you miss your flight from Hamilton, for being five measly minutes late for stupid check in, then have to sit there with no cafe or bar open while you wait for the next flight to Wellington, arriving at the hotel at like 8.55pm and then break-neck-speeding it to the 17th floor of the James Cook Grand Chancellor before 9.30pm when they stop taking orders, you will be overjoyed to have made it to Whitbys. The service is friendly and relaxed, and super helpful. Don't sit in the breakfast part where the tables have cups and saucers on them! Yes, you can have another glass of rose'! The scallops were perfect, the risotto delicious and the steak just nicely done. Thanks Whitbys. Happy to recommend!

We dined in for El La Carte menu. I wouldn't dine here again to he honest. Menu is too over priced for what we received. Steak was cooked nicely but not worth $60. Chimichurri was bland. Hand cut fries were yummy .. salad wasn't great. Oh and the Mac and cheese wasn't flavored. We had to add alot of salt. Pannacotta was yuck, I DO NOT RECOMMEND! My videos are so deceiving it looks delicious but it was just below average for me. I don't recommend sorry.. Wellington has plenty of other restaurants better than this, save your money and go somewhere else!! I only dined in because I was staying on site. And fyi - Got a entree, main, dessert and non alcoholic drink for $105.

My friends and I came for the high tea, and it was a blast! I would like to thank Lance and Rachel for providing great customer service and being attentive. Very accommodating to cater a vegetarian alternative. Food and tea came in a timely manner. We had unlimited tea as well! Nicely lit eating area with natural lighting. Would love to come again sometime! Edit: Unsure as to why it's not displaying the star rating for 'Food', 'Service' and 'Atmosphere', which should show 5 stars for all of them!
