Noodle Canteen — Restaurant in Northland

Noodle Canteen is a "fast food" Asian restaurant. Their menu is huge! I say Asian and not Chinese because they also have Thai food etc This is mostly a take away than a place to sit and eat. Although we did sit at the little counters to eat. My friend had what I think was called the Hot Box, extra spicy. He seemed to really enjoy that. I had Honey Chicken which was more honey than anything else. It was way too sweet! I had to drown it in soy sauce in order to eat some of it. The noodles mine came with reminded me of spaghetti. I think I ended up with a European type dish made for that pallet. I wouldn't have that again. Great for kids but not for me. It's not the cleanest of places. For instance the bottle of soy sauce was filthy. The counter you can eat at hadn't been wiped down in who knows how long. Really dirty. I would be giving less stars if it weren't for the fact that this place was packed. It must be a place people really like. Maybe if I had gone for a different dish I'd be happier? I still don't like the lack of cleanliness. But the people who work there were nice which is a plus in my book. Overall I don't think I'll go back. Disappointing, expensive and not worth it. Haven't had noodle canteen in years but I use to love the honey chicken and wonton noodle soup this however was gross, full of what looked and tasted like old mushy frozen beans, a lot of cabbage, carrot and onion and one or two slivers of shitake mushroom and a few pieces of BBQ pork it was not a usual broth with glorious wontons veges and bbq pieces. Noodle canteen in Whangarei is a little gem of a place. When we visited to order takeout to take home the shop was Very clean and tidy. The staff are friendly, polite and very professional. The food here is excellent and full of flavor.
