The Malt House fusion — Restaurant in Northland

My Partner and I had dinner here last night Tuesday 25th July for our 2 year Anniversary. It was a bit dissapointing that even though you have steak on the menu when we went to order it there was only one piece of steak available which is a bit strange for a fairly new restaurant on its first night open for the week and we were there at around 630pm. Even though I love steak and it's what I order when I eat out, I let my partner have it as he also loves Steak, the experience has put me off coming back, never had it happen at any other restaurant I have been to and we eat out on a regular basis. The butter chicken with Basmati rice on the other hand was fabulous, at first glance doesn't appear to be a lot of chicken as the chicken comes out in big chunks so by the time you cut them through the sauce it's about right which is a good thing otherwise it would be too dry. We ordered Garlic sour dough as well which I thought for the size of the bread pieces and small thing of bland dipping oil was a little expensive, it would have been more worth it with a couple more pieces of the bread and a second dipping sauce such as Salsa, sweet chilli, or some sort of relish. We had a large group here last night. Booked in advance so they could prepare. When we arrived they still had to get the table ready and wipe down the high chair. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Half an hour latter we had to ask for our order to be taken, the waitress proceeded to take another two tables order before ours. We asked for a couple of bowls of chips to come out asap for the kids, this took over 45mins. Our meals took well over an hour. With no communication or empathy from the staff. Other people had come eaten and left before we had even got our meals. We intended to get dessert but it had just been such a long night we couldn't face waiting another hour for icecreams. We booked early (5.30) to accommodate for the kids but found it being a very long night, not receiving our meals untill 7pm. The toilets were disgusting, the disabled toilet was out of order because the door didn't close. The womens toilets had one working but no toilet paper and the other ones seat was sitting on the floor - but atleast this one had toilet paper 🤣. For groups larger than six this is not your restaurant of choice. In November and December 2023 I have visited this restaurant more than three times in groups larger than six and the wait time to first of all place an order for food and secondly eat the food was just stunningly abysmal. On our very last visit we were seated by six pm. Our main course order was taken after 7pm and received the food at about 8pm. One of our group was so desperate to eat he kept giving his food order to the waitress taking the drinks orders. The drink orders were being taken within minutes if being seated. On a previous visit when this happened to us I asked why to be told it was because we were a large group. I have worked in restaurants, and have done silver service and in my day if we had treated a large group in this manner we would have lost our jobs.
