Obee's Waiheke — Restaurant in Waiheke

Incredibly disappointing we decided to come here to eat having friends over on the island, I had heard the food was expensive for what you get and I should have listened. Don’t come here if you expect a decent meal, you would need to order at least 8 of their minuscule tacos if you wanted to be satisfied, that would be around $80. They are two bites worth, and I’ve read other reviews saying the exact same. They justify it by saying that’s their own style! Totally stingy and overpriced. It’s not even just the tacos, someone in our party ordered the steak which was nice f cheap quality and had an old fridge taste and cheap chewy fat, not the kind that melts in your mouth, and it was over done. Won’t be coming back! No atmosphere either and slow service. Everyone was hoping when it changed hands they would make it a place with atmosphere and a locals favourite where you could get a decent meal and not have to pay a fortune, whatever they are trying to go for it’s definitely not that. It’s more a tourist trap for unsuspecting day trippers and travellers. The name is at least fitting...

Just to be clear, this cafe will be great for many people. I am writing my review for people who are noise sensitive. From that perspective, the inside dining is diabolical. Its so loud it was exhausting for me to be chatting with a friend. Its just an acoustic issue witk kitchen noise and people at tables having to raise voices to be heard by others. I cant recommend it for people with noise sensitivity nor hearing aids. Outside is fine and much quieter. Toilets were clean. Hot chocolate was nice. Staff were friendly. Children were welcome. Stopped in for brunch and we were impressed with the whole package. We sat outside on the deck where the views of the bay were stunning. The service was great too. They allowed us to order off the main menu despite it being a little early, prewarning us that it might take a little longer. We barely had time to take in the view and enjoy a fabulous coffee and juice before the food arrived. I had the Vegan Breakfast, and my partner ordered the fish and chips. Both meals were exceptional in their presentation and flavour. We also had the crispy cauliflower in Buffalo sauce as a side, which was delicious and perfectly cooked.
