Please read the response from the owner to my honest and detailed review. Typically I am not one to leave reviews but due to the bad taste in my mouth and my empty wallet I felt it was due to prevent others from falling for this trap. The owners left a rant that is a tapestry of arrogance with a belligerent attitude. When I read that 'I have to grow up' we couldn't stop laughing. There's no need to bring petty insults into this disagreement. In fact it highlights the way they treat their customers. They also did not comment on the bad quality of their overpriced food or the sweetness of their bloody mary, considering what we were charged (we have read the menu very carefully) we anticipated a higher level of quality. Also there's no response about the fact that everybody else in the "restaurant" had outside drinks on the table. After the poor experience had, we went to a stunning wineyard called Man O War where the service was banging, the atmosphere buzzing and the quality of the food mouthwatering (and served in actual plates) and the prices more than reasonable and cheaper than this establishment. We live in London and we travel the world often, we definitely know that it's ok to pay good money for good service and good food. May I suggest that before responding to other poor reviews, that you take a breath and do so without emotion, there is no room for emotion in business and maybe put more effort in to improving your clients experience rather than belittling genuine and honest reviews. Be aware. AVOID!
A tourist trap charging (in advance!) restaurant prices while offering nasty food served in takeaway cardboards and overpriced drinks. Everything accompanied by a stinky attitude from the floor manager. While at every table customers were drinking their own drinks (as tourists normally do while wondering around town) we were not allowed to have a friend drinking her own smoothy (as she was not able to eat solid food for medical reasons as we tried to politely explain) and this after paying in advance $150 for 3 people. The burger bun had the consistency of cardboard, my fish and chips costed a whopping $36 and was a tiny greasy tastless piece of fish accompanienied by an even more tastless coleslaw. The day before I went to Vino Vino next door and for the same price I had a divine panfried snapper with vegetable ratatuille served in an actual plate (not a cardboard takeaway disposable plate). The bloody mary was sickly sweet. A pint of beer costed the same as in central London. Stay away from this...
Read moreFollowing a previous visit last year, we decided to come back to try one of their other offerings.
A major dissapointment this time.
My wife had fish and chips, and she was dissapointed in what she received for her meal, expensive for the size of the meal.
I ordered ceviche, and they totally killed it with chilli.
I love chilli and have it every morning in tomato juice, so I am well acquainted and understand the heat it provides, but this was ridiculous.
However give credit where credit is due, they took it back, apologised and supplied me another meal at no charge which was good, cannot fault this.
The manager who was on duty, that I spoke to that night, was excellent.
Although the civechi stated in the list of contents chilli, it would be wise for them if they were going to keep this menu as it was supplied to me, to quote it as very hot. Then future patrons would be aware of what they were going to get.
The quantity of the meal supplied has certainly been reduced since our last visit, and it verges on an entree size, as it is not a main meal, especially noting the prices.
The view here is spectacular.
Had the best Prawn cocktail ever, the service here was spot on.
They suggested that we just wait a minute or two before we were about to sit down, as another couple were about to leave a table with a much better view, now that's real service.
My wife had calimari which was excellent, and my son had Taco's.
So all in all the food, and service was 5 stars and I rarely if ever give 5 stars, which indicates that they can't do better, this place cannot be faulted. It is a must visit, prices are a little high, but after all...
Read moreI'll start off with this... I had the best burger I have ever had here. It also has the best view I have ever had eating a burger!
The Local is situated on Waiheke Islands main town of Oneroa. If you are on a tour of the island this is the place to stop and grab some lunch or dinner before heading back.
It does not have a main entrance on the high street, you have to go down some steps next to Four Square. We went down as a gamble, and boy did it pay off. It also has stunning views.
The pricing I thought was very reasonable. I have attached a picture of the full menu). A cheeseburger with amazing meat and slot of cheese in a Waiheke island baked roll was $12, and a bag of chips (the fed two people) was $4. Yes it's a premium burger, but it's 100% worth it.
We surveyed the menus up and down the main string of resteraunts and this was Tge Local was the cheapest by a fair bit. For example, the Italian across the roads margarita pizza was $25ish.
In terms of drinks they served both fizzy drinks and alcohol. We went for a New Zealand Phoenix Cola and a lemonade. Delicious!
The staff were very friendly and also shared their knowledge on the other islands that the resteraunt looked out at.
Overall, amazing burger, great value, breathtaking views, and lovely staff.
I would recommend going back up the stairs and take a left the cross the road for an ice cream from Island...
