Milenta — Restaurant in Waitematā

We had a semi impropt decision for a place for dinner and decided to try here. We booked around midday and got a reply about an hour or 2 before the booking. We booked for an indoor area and was led away to the bar down the road. This might've been because the main area was full but we weren't really told why. The bar was nice though and we did get a nice booth to sit at. The retaurant is loacted on the carpark end of Victoria Park Market. There is a small sign by the door. The food menu is fairly large and does have a selection of interesting sounding items. We grabbed a few to share. Most of the plate were smallish though or were just so easy to eat. The Peruvian ceviche had a nice coconut flavour to it when you mixed everything together. The dressing on the tuna tiratido paired well with the fish but was a bit too sour to eat by itself. The fried arepas were crispy and filled with tender and tasty beef. The burrata was nice but I was looking for and failed to find any of the charred grapes. The picanha tartare was really ncie with the potato sticks. The pork chop main was delicious. Beaufitully cooked and seasoned and was very juicy. The main was just the protein so it might be good to order some sides too. Desert was mostly a let down. The tres leches cake was very nice and creamy. Nice flavour and tasty. The ice cream that came with it was a bit icy and the flavours were interesting. The leche flan was nice but the mango caramel on top was not. Not sure if they used fresh mango but it tasted more like a chutney with spices which I didn't like. The alfajore was just bad. It was so hard that you couldn;t relly get into it. It just tasted sour to me. It was one of the few times we actually sent a dish back. Overall the food was made really well and tasted really good. What a vibe! Such an amazing setting, tucked away and feels intimate yet has such a buzz about it and love the outdoor feel it has. The staff were absolutely second to none, friendly and knowledgeable about the food we were having and created a really warm environment and made it feel really special without being pretentious.

The food / drinks were deeeelish! Flavour combinations I hadn’t tried before and the Hendricks margarita was like a refreshing shower at a boujee spa in a drink - just fab!

We dined for the valentines set menu and for dessert we’re escorted to their bar next door called Shy Guy, and in all honesty I had a little apprehension about how it would flow with our evening but it was perfect. The atmosphere and vibe they have created at the bar is exactly what Auckland has been needing! It reminded me of the places in Sydney or the UK, a place where you can talk the night away with friends listening to good music (tunes were spot on) a super cool venue and great drinks. I wouldn’t have gone to Shy Guy without this experience and now I can’t wait to go back with friends.

An amazing little restaurant in the heart of the VIC Park market. We dined for lunch, in a contemporary little private courtyard. Starting with 2 signature cocktails, which came quickly and were delicious.

The service is attentive BUT relaxed. We chose some Waiheke oysters and Kingfish Crevice to start. The oysters were large and fresh- served with paprika oil. This was well balanced and a great start. The crevice was an excellent starter, a good sized portion and beautifully presented. If I was being picky, a bit too much salt and needed a bit more acid, however my wife thought it was perfect.

For our next course we enjoyed grilled Octopus with parsnip crème, and a classic Chicharron dish served with Avocado moose. We partnered this course with char grilled corn ribs with herb feta & chipotle butter.

Each dish was generous, well presented, seasoned and flavoursome.

We finished up with Milhojas de Fruta, dulce cream and seasonal fruits. This was an absolutely wonderful dish, so so lite and flavoursome.

Great value, generous portions, very well cooked, and wonderfully seasoned meal.

Milenta has a small, but good wine list, and the service was top notch. Food was only $116 for 2 of us.
