Sudima Auckland City — Hotel in Waitematā

We stayed there early this year for a couple of days. They said they are a 4.5-star hotel. Our experience told us they are worse than 2-star hotels. No room cleaning service. I left a sign on the door in the morning to request a cleaning, no cleaning when we came back after 3:00 PM. We called multiple times to request a cleaning service, and each time, they told us that someone would come in a few minutes. After waiting for hours, I got the clean towels from a cleaning lady on another floor. She "WeChat" our cleaning lady to come. When our cleaning lady (an Indian lady) came, she told us that she was busy, and had no time to clean our room. So I just asked her to remove all dirty towels, no cleaning then. We stayed there for several days and didn't get any cleaning service. Bathroom items were not provided fully. Always missing a few items. I needed to search for the cleaning lady in the hallway to get them myself. The room was not clean at all. When we borrowed an umbrella, the front desk staff told us that if we didn't return the umbrella, he would charge us $20. So when we returned the umbrella at the end of that day, we told him to mark that we returned the umbrella. and he said he did. When we checked out the next morning, he charged the not-returning umbrella fee. After we repeatedly reminded him we returned the umbrella last night. Then he removed the charges. Their behavior made us wonder if they tried to sneak in additional charges to their customers. Very dishonest. They have no toothpaste or any other items even a 2-star hotel will provide. Centrally located in Aucklands CBD the Sudima Auckland Citys' provides easy access to the waterfront, shopping, workplaces and entertainment.

The staff are welcoming and accommodating.

The beds are comfortable. The standard rooms are very small with the bed located in the centre of the room leavin very little space remaining. Speaking of very little space, you are not provided with a cupboard to stow away your bags, clothes etc.

6 hooks and hangers are attached to the wall located beside an extremely thin fridge.

Bathroom facilities are tidy and modern but yet again there is no space to place your toiletries.

The in room TV only provides Freeview channels. This hotel does not have a gym but they do provide access to a gym 5 minutes away.

I was unable to reduce the temperature in my room below 22 degrees which made my first night extremely uncomfortable. I mentioned this to the reception staff who provided a fan which helped reduce the temperature. They also provided me with a thinner and firmer pillow.

Breakfast downstairs provides a wide variety of options.

The price for a room was on the expensive end for its size but you're paying for the location.

I have stayed here with my husband and we were more than overwhelmed with how welcoming and professional staff were. Hotel interior is beautiful and colours are my style so I felt a lot like at home. We were given a $50 voucher for food or drinks to use in hotel restaurant. This time we only had cocktails and they were amazing.We had to leave earlier than we planned but hotel was happy to bill us only for those days we were there which we really appreciate. Cons: The room had one light that did not work and the pipe under the sink was leaking but after addressing this to staff member they fixed it in no time. However it happened again and resulted in some of my clothes being soaked in water, but honestly it is not a big deal. When we just arrived the door lock did not work but again they fixed it in shortly. Another thing is breakfast. It is beautifully cooked but it is a bit on a smaller side and the quality of bread was a bit disappointing. It had cheap feel to it. Since we went to level 3 while we were there I was surprised that only one staff member wore mask that morning.

After addressing all the cons I would still happily recommend this place to my friends because of the loveliest staff and cleanliness of the rooms and location. They are a new hotel and still have room for improvement which I am sure...
