For our latest girls catch up lunch, we tried the menu at The Good Luck Coconut in Wynyard Quarter. The restaurant bar is beautifully presented as a tiki bar with pacific rim inspiration. The flow of the place is impressive from indoor to outdoor focused around the bar. Staff is very warm and inviting and the ambiance is bustling, varied with all sorts of patrons and very relaxed. We immediately ordered some beverages including cocktails Blessed Shores, Missionary’s Downfall, Fantasy Island and a mocktail, Virgin Pineapple & Cardamon Cooler, and the drinks were amazing! It was amusing how quickly and easily drink orders were decided upon and delivered whereas food required more deliberation amongst the incessant yet highly anticipated catch up chatter. To eat we ordered Sweet Potato Bread, Ika Mata, Crispy Chicken Karage, Wild Caught Tiger Prawns, High Tide and Savoury Coconut Rice. My favorite dishes were the raw fish which was beautifully creamy highlighting the delicate flesh with a hint of lime and the sweet potato bread as it was fluffy and unctuous with gorgeous toasted coconut butter! There seemed to be nothing wild about the prawns and name of the dish preceded the appeal and the chicken was average. Following on, we settled on the chocolate custard dessert with coffee and it was simply exquisite in depth of flavour of Koko Samoa with mango sorbet and texture with biscuit crumb. Overall, our lunching experience was wonderful, service was highly attentive with exceptional beverages and very good Pan Asian food. The place lends favourably to catch ups as you could easily sit, eat, drink and talk the afternoon away. The sharing nature of the dishes is good as you can try various items. Highly recommended and worth a try!

Met up with a friend and thought that this place would be nice to try since it's new. We didn't book and all the inside tables weren't available, but we were able to get some tables in the semi-outdoor area by the bar facing the harbour. The server was really friendly and helpful. They even let us move tables when there was room inside since it was getting a bit cold. We were going to order a few things to share but ended up trying the chefs choice menu since they were able to change some of the dishes due to dietary requirements. There were a few things that were a lot better than I thought they would be like the sweet potato bread and the taro leaf wrapped chicken. The ceviche was nice but didn't have enough acidity. I thought that the white swirls on the plate was tigers milk but ended up being coconut milk. Nice flavours but felt it was a bit off. I found the salmon poke to be too acidic where I thought it would've been cleaner. The pork yakitori stick was nice. The gyoza had good flavour, especially the dipping sauce, but thought the filling was a bit too wet so it almost had a gluggy texture. The taro wrapped chicken was beautifully cooked. personally found the sauce a bit too salty but it was evened out when eaten with the chicken. The desserts were interesting and not as expected. I found the chocolate custard to be on the bitter side but was nice with the sorbet. The coconut parfait was interesting in both flavour and texture. Quite a nice place for a meal in Wynyard Quarter. The food is generally quite nice but thought there just some things that needed to be iron out. Considering that they are quite new it is a really great accomplishment.

Great friendly service, food and cocktails were delish and presented well! Nice location looking out over the water and the atmosphere is pretty chilled and relaxed. Favs of the night were the prawns, beans, and the banana loaf dessert. You can clearly see the attention to detail in presentation and flavor which made each dish really interesting. We tried about 5 starters, had 2 larger meals and cocktails. Definitely over ordered for 2 people but we were really pleased with everything. The shitake mushroom dumplings were tasty, and good value for money. I thought that the beef tataki (an addiction of mine) would have been really good had it been sliced a little thinner and the ceviche could have had a little less coconut milk so that the fish shone through even more... but these were just my personal thoughts and both were already so so good as they were. Thanks team!!

Let me first start by saying that the food here was great - I cannot fault the culinary experience at The Good Luck Coconut. If you're going just for food, and paying for each meal separately, they're great! However... the drinks were super expensive, and our group was overcharged for a couple of cocktails we were told would be complimentary (due to them incorrectly making the first drink order). A couple people also weren't charged for drinks they definitely said they'd ordered while they were at the till paying, leaving my friend - whose birthday we were out celebrating!!! - with a crazy bill. I believe the drinks issue was eventually rectified, but let me continue. There is a discrepancy over being charged extra for the food as well: we were all there for the set menu, and staff confirmed upon our arrival that we had a smaller party than anticipated. This meant were each only expecting to pay for our share (and our drinks, of course), and for the tab to be charged in total for the correct number of people who showed. Why would staff ask and confirm how many people were there otherwise? On the contrary, my friend - again, this is the birthday girl - was left with an additional charge for four people who weren't able to make it, which has left us all banding together to try cover this for her so she's not having to pay a crazy tab for HER celebration. I do understand that a number was given for our booking, but I don't understand why staff would confirm a lower number and then continue to cater for, and charge for, people that were not actually physically there. If they'd just catered for the total number, nobody would have lost out - and we wouldn't be left with this issue. The place was packed, the staff barely had time to cater to us... and I know our table spent a fair amount on drinks (especially since they're so expensive!), so it's not like we were stingy. Overall, I found the way my friend was treated has completely marred my experience at The Good Luck Coconut - while the atmosphere and food were decent, I don't agree with the "leftover" bill being as crazy as it was. This was to the tune of OVER THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS for only eighteen people. If you're going with a group, make sure the staff are completely aware of how many people are actually there - otherwise they'll whack ya with whatever they can. Would I go again? Maybe, if someone invited me out there. But after the way this all played out, I definitely wouldn't make this...

Wanted to Love it, found myself disappointed. We eat out a lot, across a variety of places and a fair bit of fine dining, so we know what to expect usually. I'll start with the positives first. It's a lovely environment that really does a great job of making you feel you could be in a restaurant in Maui, or on an island in Fiji. The menu is pretty comprehensive and on message. What isn't quite so good, is the food portions, and some of the service left us feeling like we just weren't wanted. Our waiter lacked a bit of warmth and friendliness. There were 2 adults and a child in our party of 3, and we ordered 4 small plates and a large. We left hungry and feeling like we didn't get value for money. There were a couple of high points, the TiMata was really well executed, but the Poke had a lot of rice and a little less Salmon than we might have expected, and we couldn't really 'taste' the salmon because of the mayo it was in. It was presented nicely. The bread was warm and nice, and a novel colour my son enjoyed, and the butter was magnificent. The other dishes were the Tataki, which wasn't terrible, but we didn't personally enjoy the interpretation of it. The biggest problem really was the main dish we selected. It's $28 and vegetarian and sounds AMAZING, but in reality it was barely bigger than a side, with small but nice looking multicoloured carrots, with a lovely Labneh sauce. It's described as having charred Aubegine, but what we got was TINY, overcooked to the point of being nearly solid. As described it could have been a signature dish, and one I had been looking forward to trying, but was ultimately really small. Certainly not a main meal for even my 9 year old son, who isn't a big eater. I feel this restaurant really seriously needs to look at it's portion sizes and menu prices, because as much as I like fine dining and understand portions are usually smaller but higher quality, this missed the mark by a mile for us. My wife and I disputed sending it back and opted to not, but did try and give some feedback as we paid, but were met with a very defensive "this is a fine dining restaurant and our portions are sized accordingly". If they rectified some things, we would be willing to come back, as it's got the bones of a place that could be MAGIC, but it's not quite right in our opinion right now. Bathrooms were...
