Dinner was a nightmare at Industry Zen. They have changed their menu and all the wait staff did not know what or how they should be serving things. Glass breaking everywhere, apologising staff from table to table… We waited about 15 minutes for our drinks to be served only to find out they were the wrong beer. So further waits. After about 30 minutes, we were served with two dishes only - Agedashi tofu (so so) and oysters (so so). We were very very hungry. Another 20 minutes passed then came our sashimi. We weren’t sure why there was lemon slices on these which left a white mark on sashimi. Maybe lemon pieces were placed on sashimi then were kept it in the refrigerator for a long time? Otherwise why should there be lemon marks? We were then served with A5 Grade Wagyu beef which consisted of 3 small pieces of wagyu and a piece of meat cut into 6 tiny pieces which were so chewy. I did not expect to get this for $38. We were in a rage when we finally received our Pork Katsu which was still pink inside. They are probably trying to make us sick, we thought. We complained this and the waitress took it back. When the dish came back, we noticed that the crumbs were soggy and meat chewy. Did they use microwave to heat them up…?!?! Probably. We asked to see the manager and told him that we weren’t happy and that we were not going to eat this pork. He apologised and said that they just changed the menu yesterday. He offered to cook us a new one but we had to leave for our movie. We got out paying $140 for 4 of us and felt angry and hungry - we had to buy food and alcohol (especially to calm down) from the theatre. Tempura prawn was the only decent thing we ate. Industry Zen was one of my favourite Japanese place but yesterday was far from being a place of Zen. If you cannot cope with a menu change, DON’T...
Read moreWorst Japanese restaurant I've experienced in NZ - Maybe they have a new cook in the kitchen, because Thursday night's dinner looked nothing like the photos shared in other reviews below.
Food was a legitimate 0/10
"Yum Yum" rolls were a nightmare of mayonaise, very messy presentation, and tasted terrible. So big that it was impossible to eat in one bite, portioning was way off.
Pork gyazo was undercooked and fell apart on the chopstick.
Mixed tempura = cardboard, sadly the worst I've ever had.
But the mixed sushi nigiri was really the painful part, a long tray of warm raw fish over rice - it was as if the cook had no idea how to portion properly as each individual piece was a different size, one of the pieces was so long it touched the table. It wasn't fresh and my group both agreed that it smelled bad.
Atmosphere: Really bad lighting, cheap funky seating. Service: Average, initial waitress was very nice - the three others servers who switched onto us at random forgot our drinks and were confrontational when we politely asked for them to bring them.
Would never return again, hugely...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. Yesterday we had an appointment at 8 o’clock we arrived 8:20pm and we were standing at the door waiting for the check vaccine pass. We waited for 5 minutes and no one paid any attention to us. The staff were busy serving the food and didn’t look at the door at all...Finally saw us after five minutes. It’s not the first time to greet us, still talk to the staff next to her, which makes me feel bad and unrespect. We are four people, two friends did not arrive yet. Don't have any staff (5 staff at that time) to provide us with water for 10 minutes while we were waiting, we just waited... After eating sushi, four people total three people went home and all had diarrhea... The tuna was not fresh, and there was no good choice on the menu. Anyway. No next time. My stomach is always good. The first time I ate Japanese food and had diarrhea. I don’t know if it closes at 9 and we order at 8:30. The ingredients are not...
