Nikau Café is an absolute gem in Wellington’s culinary scene, and my recent visit further cemented its reputation for excellence. Among their offerings, two dishes stood out as showstoppers: the kedgeree and the Montreal Benedict, perfectly complemented by their refreshing mimosas.
The kedgeree is a masterclass in balance and flavour. The smoky fish, delicately spiced rice, and soft-boiled egg create a harmonious symphony that feels both comforting and refined. Every bite speaks to the care and precision the kitchen puts into crafting this iconic dish.
The Montreal Benedict is equally memorable. With its rich, velvety hollandaise and beautifully poached eggs atop a bed of tender, flavourful brisket, it offers a modern twist on a classic that will leave you wanting more. The addition of a perfectly toasted base added a delightful crunch that elevated the dish.
The mimosas were the perfect accompaniment to these meals. Light, crisp, and with just the right amount of citrus zing, they added a celebratory note to an already exceptional brunch experience.
Nikau Café continues to deliver impeccable food in an inviting, relaxed atmosphere. If you haven’t tried these standout dishes yet, they’re reason enough to plan your next visit. Highly...
Read moreSadly we were very disappointed by our Asado experience. Firstly, it states to get there by 6.30 pm which we arrived much earlier than that but didn’t get any food until after 7 (other diners you could tell were getting restless as well). The food was ok, I was going to give 3 stars but remembered how much salt we put on our meat to enhance the taste (steak was good after that). Sadly we missed out on getting any extras as even though we were seated near the start the severs followed a set pattern so by the time they got to us there were no more extras (though I did notice some of the previous tables got double servings which probably added to us missing out). We left as soon as we finished our dessert which wasn’t until after 9 (states this is 6.30 to 8.30). Also as an FYI the deposit isn’t taken off the bill, it’s refunded back to you which I’m not sure how long that is going to take. I’ve spoken to a few friends that went there and they experienced similar to us, long wait for disappointment! So fair warning - don’t have high hopes, or better yet just go to Wildfire - much more worth the money & the service...
Read moreQuite disappointed with my encounter at Nikau Cafe. Awhile ago I called ahead of time and was told I could purchase gift vouchers in store at the cafe. I popped over one morning during my morning tea break to purchase one for the Experience Asado (value for $150.00). I was told by staff they didn't know how to process this and asked the manager who too responded with not knowing how to do one and that she'd never have to do one before. She then told me that wait while she made some coffees and she would try to find out. After waiting close to ten minutes and clearly being ignored, I left the cafe. It was a waste of my time and despite the staff not knowing how to process vouchers, it was more the fact that I was a willingly paying customer being ignored. I understand coffee orders are a priority and whether that particular morning was busy or they were understaffed I don't know but I didn't appreciate being stood there waiting around. Ultimately I feel bad for the cafe overall as I no longer wished to spend that...
