Dear Manager,
If you happen to read this review, I hope you will take it into consideration to help your business improve.
While the food at your restaurant was fine, the service left much to be desired. Unfortunately, I have never encountered a waitress with such a poor attitude toward customers as we experienced during our visit.
We were a party of four, though one of us arrived later. We had to ask three times to receive a cup of water and an additional plate. When we asked to pay, the waitress ignored us, even though she was standing nearby. After asking again, her response was dismissive—she barely turned to us, rolled her eyes with an annoyed expression, and told us to go to the counter to pay.
Throughout the meal, her behavior toward us was consistently unpleasant. When my friend asked her politely (in Norwegian) why her attitude was so poor, she replied in English, “I don’t understand Norwegian,” despite having taken our order and spoken fluent Norwegian earlier. When the question was repeated in English, she again replied in Norwegian, claiming not to understand English.
This kind of behavior is disheartening and creates a negative experience for customers. I hope you will address this matter with your staff and ensure that customer service standards are upheld. Excellent service is just as important as the quality of the food and can make a significant difference in building a positive reputation for your restaurant.
Thank you for your attention to...
Read moreIf you’re looking for an authentic Thai food fix in Oslo, Thai Orchid (Calmeyers gate 11, 0183) deserves to be high up on your go-to list.
From the moment you walk in, the scents of lemongrass, chilli, and fresh herbs hit you — it’s a signal that you’re in for something good. The place isn’t posh, but don’t let that fool you. The food delivers. • Try the Panaeng Curry — creamy yet punchy, with just enough heat to wake up your palate without overwhelming. • The Pad Kraprao is another standout: generous with meat & fresh vegetables, served with that signature basil-chilli stir-fry that’s spicy, aromatic and balanced. • Portions are ample, so you won’t leave hungry. In fact, they do well with take-away too — the flavours travel well.
Service is warm and upbeat — the staff often ask about spice tolerance, give good recommendations, and maintain a friendly vibe. The atmosphere is casual, with nice touches (orchids, Thai signage, etc.), making it a pleasant place for anything from a solo dinner to catching up with friends.
Prices are fair for the scene: you may pay a bit more than the smallest hole-in-wall, but given what you get (flavour, portions, authenticity) it feels like good value. If I were to give a tip: go slightly off-peak time if possible, since even on weekdays the place can get busy.
Would I go back? Absolutely. Thai Orchid gives you a taste of Thailand in Oslo without pretense, and for that alone...
Read moreSTAY AWAY! Dirty toilets, rude staff and overpriced bad food. I ordered one dish called Lar Nar Kai, which was chicken and vegetables in some mystery sauce called 'trick', which the waitress did not explain and it was tasteless and stodgy; very low standard considering I paid 175NOK which is $20 (£14.50) for it, I was not happy with it at all. I think the photo below says enough. I'm not someone who complains, but considering I paid so much for it I asked the waitress that I would like something else to replace it.
Instead of listening to my complaint, they dismissed what I had to say, insisting it was my opinion that the food was bad and that I had to pay for it anyway, despite the fact I had one bite and refused to eat it. They had no sympathy and had only anger at me because I didn't like their dish. If they want their restaurant to survive, they should listen to what their customers tell them!! After conceding and paying for my unwanted food, they didn't even bother to say goodbye, I guess for obvious reasons. Toilets were also also very unclean and cleaning products were left in front of customer.
I visited Thai Orchid on 13/12/2019. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. My warning to people going is to be careful what you order, because if you don't like it, it's your...
